Ditto,
The Facebook, Twitter , Google buttons appear to be the delaying factor...

Why are they necessary?

I could read your post by putting the mouse cursor over the title, but couldn't respond. I'm not sure how you were able to post, but I'm guessing you were in that forum already and the new post icon was there. I tried to do the same thing, but couldn't get into the forums and nothing would work... frustrating to see your post and not be able to respond...

Ron,
I asked about the social network links in our posts. I find no posted announcement of their addition here or what their purpose is. I thought CC was my social/technical network. I know that 9-year olds understand their purpose but I don't-never turned my attention to or participated in their universe.
Since I have no knowledge of or use for them I don't know other than the basic-that people can talk on them and companies can harvest info from them.
Do they give someone the ability to 'tweet' or post elsewhere any member's text or photos? Without them knowing or approving? How does it work?
I know this is the 21st century and this is SOP stuff these days so we can all squirm in the same information bed-but an explanation of its need and operation before its appearance would have been appreciated. As well as the option to decline participation. I know we're not copyright-protected here nor are our pics secure to the world.
If it was announced or explained, show me where as I obviously missed it.

This is a little "helper" app that was added over the weekend

Basically, it is a shortcut system that lets a user quickly share the link to a thread on any number of "social" systems, and also has a few convenience buttons. It also gives some analytics for tracking use.

If you hit the Facebook one, it creates a wall post for you with a link to the thread; the Twitter button creates a tweet with a shortened URL to the thread. The Google button creates a Bookmark to the thread in your Google Bookmarks.

The other buttons let you one-click print the thread, or one-click e-mail the thread to anyone you want.

Some people "live" on FB or Twitter; others casually use it...and still others have no interest.

If you are in the latter group...just ignore the buttons.

If you like, you may read the Privacy Statement of the app's publisher

Chas, now you have an easy, convenient button to click on and see my kid's prom pics on Facebook.

Thanks for the reply. So if I get this, a thread in which I happen to post text or pics can be sent by another member to twitt for example (aptly named for some of my colleagues on here) and without my knowledge appear on the web worlds stage. Yes??
I'm good with the email and print buttons-NOT good with the 'analytics for tracking use' crap.
Don't we all B**** about the Big Brother tactics for persecution and tracking of of our cars? Do we really want to help sponsors and bad guys devour us on the web-voluntarily no less?
Ron, after I read the Privacy link, could I have the 'social (disease) buttons' removed from my sig and would that prevent my posts from appearing all over the universe? Or is it a case of everybody's got 'em, no exceptions because it's a programming PIA??
BTW, nobody on here is interested in what I write anyway-why should the web world at large be fascinated???

Right now, everything you say and do on this forum is cataloged, indexed and saved by Google forever...even every word of the banal repartee with Patrick...and available for anyone to find with a Google search.... forever.

And...that is done without the little buttons.

You may complain to Google about the internet if you wish.

The "analytics crap" helps Brent run the Forum.

Let me say it a different way:

If you don't want to use the buttons...don't push them.

I would say that no one knows how to push your buttons like Chas does.

OK Ron, a little explanation for the coal-burning set goes a long way. But I was right-I don't have to push them but I can't stop others from posting my crap-anywhere.
Would be very attentive to hear from Brent how sizing us up statistically helps him run the site.
Screw goog-I'm going right to the top and calling Al Gore.
