Default Grinding required on TKO case for SPF installation?

I'm doing a new engine/tranny install in SPF 2423. The original engine and tranny are long gone. Last week the 408w motor was lowered into position. Today, I along with some help dropped in the TKO 600 4617 tranny going in via interior route. I notice the case of the tranny above the fixed cross member is making contact with the cross member prior to the tranny mount contacting the mounting plated bolted to the cross member. Mount is 1/8" or less of making contact. It does not look like a problem with the integrity of the case if some material was removed. Before I line up a few people to pull it out (would like to keep it in) what has been done previously? Spacer plate under mount, washers, grind the case, etc.? Thanks in advance.

Default 1/8" is too tight

Even if you have enough case thickness to grind some off, the engine and trans will move around - maybe a lot - depending on the mounts you end up using. You are going to want a lot more cleareance than just not touching while its sitting on the lift, otherwise it will be banging under power.

I wouldn't grind the case, if you hook up the drive shaft whats the angle look like, maybe that will point you to what's wrong?

Lot of expertise over here:

Yes, you need to shave some metal off the bottom of the trans in order for it to properly clear. I'll try and post some pictures of mine when I get a chance so you can see where the cut needs to be made. I used a Sawzall and a grinder to clean up the cut and it worked just fine.

Here's a link from Craig's Cobra web site with excellent pictures of the proper cut necessary on the Tremic.
