Default 50th Anniversary AC Ace 2.6

This year is the 50th Anniversary of the AC Ace 2.6 - this from 1961!

Introducing the AC Ace 2.6

THE CAR OF DISTINCTION
Speed with safety

'AC Cars Ltd are pleased to announce that, with the co-operation of the Ford Motor Company, they are able to offer the 2.6 unit produced by this Company, an alternative to the A.C. and Bristol Engines which will still be offered with all models.

The tuned Ford 2.6 litre engine produces exceptionally high power from 2,000 rpm onwards, with the added virtues of silence and excellent torque characteristics. The 2.6 may therefore be driven as a town carriage or full use may be made of the considerable power available when 100mph may be reached in 18 sec or 110mph in 24 seconds.

The lower engine has enable our Designers to lower the bonnet of the car, and at the same time reduce the size of the radiator air intake, considerably minimizing air drag and enabling a very high maximum speed to be achieved...making the 2.6 litre Ace one of the fastest production cars today.'

Only 37 of this model were produced until 1963, but by that stage AC's focus was on the Cobra.

The Ace 2.6 cars were real sweethearts. But for the fact that the torque of the Cobra overshadowed them, there might have been more to go around today.
