Default Wishing You All On The East Coast Well!

Hope you guys on the east coast don't have too much damage from Irene blowing in. We all were hoping it would of turned and came across the gulf as Texas needs the rain and something to blow this stagnet High out of here. Be safe.....

My daughter in law and 6 month old grandaughter is in Virgina (across the bay from Norfolk). They have a neighbor's tree down and leaning on their house, a few leaking windows (100 year old colonial house, so not suprised) and without power. Other then that they are fine. My son is in Afganistan so they have that to worry about along with the storm.

got about 5 inches of rain in a 12 hour period, i have a few inches to spare if ya need some rain......
i'm enjoying some high winds right now. it is a virtual war zone in my yard.
the walnut trees have fruit, so those babies are a 2 inch projectile traveling horizontal....... let me tell ya they hurt when they hit you, a well placed walnut could take you down...

Gary, Thanks for you concern. We were very lucky. No damage, never lost power. We really dodged a bullet.

We had it go by this morning. The shore got ko'd, but I got by with no damage (I live 25 mi. from the beach), just a mess in the yard. A million people in CT. without power, but I watched F1 this morning without interruption. I was lucky. It was the worst storm up here since 1938.

We had 180k out of power here in So Maine.Have not seen the wife in almost a week. Our shifts are 17 on 7 off.Staying in Hotel, live too far from shop to get any sleep with only 7 hrs off.So much damage up the coast and not enough lineworkers to go round.

CT: A Sunday article placed the power outage at 830,000, approx 55% of the state wide customer base. Outages started Saturday 8/27 and predicted to be fully restored on Wednesday 9/7. A contributing factor for the damage/power outage was the slow moving nature of the hurricane.

Compared to others & those still w/o power, out only 4 days, gets old real fast.

Know the feeling we lost ours for 4 days in 1998 during the Ice Storm.Problem then was the below freezing temps, and working for the utility with no way to get near home to restore sooner.Did not see the wife during that time for almost a month. Thankful for wood stove, city water, and super insulated home. The wife is a surviver made me very proud during all that.

mdross1: The next storm, which has already started, will be the numerous inquiries into the performance of the power company, CL & P, during the extended outage. Valid fact finding has yet to occur, but mentioned are the decrease in the number of line crews, tree trimming practicers, overall coordination of restoring, who pays for the labor/materials ( rate payers or stock holders ), OT policy including scheduling to avoid/minimize OT costs, underground power cables, etc etc

Got to give the line crews a lot of credit for their work......and maintaing a safe and injury free environment. Believe CL& P restricts their line crews to no more than 16 straight hours, then mandatory 8 off for safety reasons....do not know how many consecutive days allowed. My longest outage was 6 or 7 days during the 1973 ice storm
