If you're the same person I talked to this morning, I think you mean half-shaft, not stub axle.

If you need half shafts and not stubs, I have an extra set I'd sell. john.chamorro1@gmail.com

Mick,
This is the launch where I disintegrated the universals and the half shafts.

I broke the stub axles in February when Tommy Goldstein of Ferrari vs Cobra fame rented the track in Maryland to practice and had the local Cobras come along to play.

And the cause of all this self inflicted misery...

Looks like a good launch. Any body or frame damage? I have wondered what happens when you brake a half shaft. Does the tire fold in at the top and the broken shaft beat the crap out of everything until you come to a stop (which would happen really quick I would think). Is that where having the upper part of the hub connected to the frame by a watts linkage also a benefit and would help prevent damage or would it destroy that too? The forces would be different (side to side) than what the watts was intended to control (front to back), but would it help in that situation? Good luck with a quick and not to pricey fix.

No body or suspension damage thankfully. I got the car to roll back to the trailer
A Jag rear was made for a 230 HP 6 cylinder with 700 series bias ply TREADED tires. When you put 500 HP and MT drag radials in their place the result eventually will not be pretty, nor cheap. I have some drag radials for sale real cheap....

Jaguar ended up using it in their 12 cylinder cars too. Much heavier cars, with up to 4.11 differential gears with the overdrive transmissions.

Shelby chose to use the differential (with very minor casting changes) in the 427. True, it wasn't meant for drag racing, but it has held up pretty well otherwise.

I know this is an old post, but did you end up having a set of 31 spline axles made? If so, how did they come out and how much did you pay?

Thanks

Jack is correct. Twisted the half shaft like a pretzel. This was from a "off idle" launch. Those Avons HOOK!!!

At least the stub axles held up this time!

Where did you get your stub axles in the end and where did you get the 31 spline differential or spider gears? I have a couple Kirkham 19 spline differentials I would like to switch over to 31 spline if possible.

Bob

Hey Bob that shouldn't be hard to go from 19 to 19. Don't they use a 31 spline Auburn gear?

Thanks Nick, I corrected it in my post. I haven't had a chance to rebuild the Kirkham diffs yet, so exploring the costs/trouble in changing over now to the 31 spline stubs/ spider gears. (even though I already bought the stub axles for the 19 spline unit).

I didn't know that Auburn made a 31 spline Dana 44 differential? I'll have to check that out. Who makes/sells the 31 spline stubs these days?

Bob
