Throttle cable help
Hi all,
First of all, I didn't really which section to post this in so I figured "All-cobra" what be fine...
For our new TWM FE manifold, we need to switch from a push rod set up to a cable set up. I have been looking on Summit for these kinds of set up but none really fit the bill... The manifold has a .24 ID sleeve where you would slide in a cable jacket in, then the actual cable is held on the intake throttle actuators by a "ball end" that you set screw on the cable. All the different kinds of cables on Summit have these pretty specific ends to them.
So what/where should I be looking for this? Motorcycle shop? I can post up some pics tomorrow when I get home.
Thanks in advance.

You won't find an actual kit that has everything you need. But most everything you need can be found from various suppliers.
For things like pedestals, bell cranks, etc, check with Inglese Induction Systems - Weber Carburetor & EFI Induction Systems . The cable can be had - as you know - from just about anywhere. I use a Lokar steel braided. Some people have had trouble wih them, but I'v been lucky.
You'll probably find it easier to run the cable in from the front of the manifold. Depending on how your throttle pedal is set up, that might make for fewer bends. I have seen it run off the back side of the gas pedal, behind the dash, and through a hole in the firewall directly behind the intake manifold. A very clean set up, and easy to do.
Circled in this picture is the throtle cable holder I made out of scrap sheet metal.
The two parts marked here are the hex shaped throttle arm I made out of 3/8" hex alum, and the bell crank base I made out of 1" hex alum.

Thank you for your reply. Your bell crank and hex rods look really nice.
My system is slightly different from yours in that the cable weaps around the bellcrank, and the housing that you slide the cable jacket in, is attached to the same block as the bellcrank... Sorry, that is a confusing description hah. The picture below shows just a little, as the fuel rails block a lot of the view. I'm going to use the throttle pedal rod that comes in to the engine bay, and make a bracket to hold the cable assembly to it.
Thanks again Bob.

Cable needed
As a (very) long time motorcycle guy who always makes his own cables, I strongly recommend that you buy the makings and make up a cable. Do NOT use a screw on end, use the proper soldered ends. They will work better and are more trustworthy. You may have to fiddle a bit to get the length right, but it will be much more reliable. You will have to learn (if you don't already know) how to reliably attach the fittings, but it's not hard and is useful info. You can find instructions many places, both printed and on the web.
There is a wide variety of aircraft cable, ferrules, and fittings available. And there are multiple sources, but you should be able to get all the fixings from here:
Flanders Cable Part Search
If you can't I can steer you to other suppliers.
Cheers

HI,
Here is a photo of how I built the throttle linkage for my TWM. The bell crank off the peddle pushes the rod that rotates the cable around the pulley. The cable goes directly from there to the TWM pulley. It's very smooth.
I machined this myself. I'm sure David and Thomas could make you one, but prettier! (And all one piece.)

Hi,
Just to give you an idea of the dimensions.
The "wheel" is about 3.2" overall. The cable rides about 1.5 inches from center. And the Throttle push rod about 2.2 inches from center.
The wheel rides on a small bearing in the center. You MUST have a stop for the return. (resting.)
If you have other questions, please let me know.

I just saw this. After I went through the throttle body alignment on my Roush 427IR my throttle cable was too short. I searched everywhere for the cable with the ball on the end. Auto dealers had some from Nissans and others but all were too stiff, or too short, or had way too much wrapped around them. Eventually I went to a motorcycle shop. He sent me to a Go Kart place about 10 miles away. he had hundreds of them in various configurations - some with the ball already attached, others that you added it to, etc. He found a cable (without the ball) that matched my cable for flex and sold me a little brass ball (actually, a cylinder) for $.25. I went home, soldered the ball to the stop with my trusty soldering iron from the 70s, cut the cable and dressed it. It cost me more in gas to go get it than it did for the cable and ball - I think a total of something under $5.00.

Len, do you have a side shot of that set up?
Twobjshelbys, $5? I think I can spring for that Good idea about the kart shop, didn't even think of it. I race karts myself and going to ask my guy if he has something thick enough for this set up.
