Default Rear ended in the Cobra!!

Some days just plain suck! It was overcast and cool but dry when I left my house. But by the time I got to the valley it was a steady heavy drizzle. The short version I stopped just fine albeit not perfectly straight. Unfortunately, the guy behind me in the Corolla, not so much. He slid into me pretty hard in the right rear quarter.
Took out the right rear suspension, destroyed the tire maybe the rim.

Ill be calling the insurance companies today.

Does anybody know the availability of SPF bodies?

Maybe Ill make it a Flip-top?

Jason

That stinks man. You always gotta watch out for the other guy, dont you? It's a shame they can't watch out for themselves.

Sorry to see that Jason! Hopefully Hillbank can make some recommendations. Seems like the best bet would be to find a shop that regularly works on SPFs to act as a "general contractor."

I'm really sorry to hear that, Jason. Let me ask you, did the guy in the Toyota simply not react quickly enough to your stopping? Or did he react as quickly as possible but his car just couldn't stop quick enough?

Glad you're OK. I've seen an SPF bodywork fixed when it should have been replaced. The panels are available but I think the trunk is bonded to the inside of the quarter and I'm guessing you'll need that also. Remember it may be so labor intensive to cut away and graft in parts it may be more feasible to look at the whole body replacement or a rear half anyways.

Thanks for all the well wishes

Feels like I took a beating. I hit my head on the roll bar, I still have a head ache (Ill be building a pad now). The Dr is sending me for x-rays today and referral to PT. sucks!

Patrick,

I would say he was going to fast for conditions and not paying close enough attention. I stopped, then I heard skidding and the impact. It was slippery, but I managed not to hit anything or anybody.

Jerry,

I was a little crooked but still pointing in the right direction and in my lane. It’s a long sweeping turn that is banked (low driver side).

Mick,

I can’t see the quarter being fixed, it’s pretty destroyed. I haven’t looked over the whole car yet, too sore. I know the upright bolts are sheared and the arms sure look bent based on the wheel position. I hope the frame isn’t bent

Do not underestimate the significance of blunt force trauma to the head. Second, do not underestimate the significance of soft-tissue injury or the overall "roughening up" that your entire body took from the impact -- you (just like your car) need a full "inspection." You're not as young, nor as tough, as you think you are. And for God's sake, if you get an unusual, sharp headache call 911 immediately.

At least the other driver had insurance, I was rearended a few years ago in my DD and the other driver didn't have any insurance. My car was totaled and wasn't going to be replaced, needless to say I was pretty hot after that. Good luck with the insurance companies though.

Have the whole car checked thoroughly. You could have damage to the other side and front as well. The force of a collision can transfer damage all over the car. Look at suspension mounts front and rear, as well as under the hood components. They can give you a clue if things have been moved. Also, try to take the car to a Cobra specialist, or at least an expert in fiberglass repair.

Good luck with the your health and the health of your car!
