decals
I am looking for vintage type decals...sponsorship decals i.e. Goodyear, Koni etc for my car...what type of decals are the best that won't damage the paint or surface static cling, or vinyl type...where is a good place to purchase these decals along with the meatball numbers

Also, would like to know everyones choice of static cling or magnetic...thanks

X2 for the vintage ones from Finishline and I had the #s made by Gochecker.com, Picked my # and font and they did the rest. Also got the red team stripes from gochecker in both static and adhesive.(went with adhesive on the team stripes because of all the curves.

Finish Line sell them for $40
Vintage Decals.
Made of static cling vinyl. They are removable/reusable and excellent for track or show events. They do not come off in the rain or at high speed. A good alternative to permanent paint, sticky back or tape. Decals.- Set includes two of each, Goodyear, Esso, Friction Proff, Autolite, Koni, Pure, Castrol, and extinguisher marker. Used on SC Cobra and FIA Cobra. Set.

So my question becomes how many are acceptable, I know this is a very personal choice, but at what point does it get to be too much? I have a blank page so to speak since my car is all bleck and I am considering adding decals, thus suggestions would be welcome. Oh, and one more, how do these stick on decals hold up when washing the car or do they need to be removed?

Our Cobras are either aluminum (Kirkham, Shelby) or fiberglass....magnetic won't work on any of them

John, the question is really "What do you like?" I looked through hundreds of old pictures to get a sense of what would be on a vintage Cobra and kind of went from there. That direction also made me source decals from different sources because a single source didn't have what I wanted. For instance, apparently Shell was always the petrol sponsor for SA so I thought having "puroil" or some other oil advert on mine wouldn't look right so I wound up buying the shells from another source. Now that being said, all of those decals are on a car with 2 roll bars. How original is THAT? But, I knew that I'd have passengers that I'd want to afford the same protection that I had and made that decision early on in the process. That’s just one example of the many that I’ve made contrasting a vintage look with my personal demands.
As to how well they stay during washing? Never had a problem at all.

Size does matter
In my opinion, you need a fairly large "meatball" to look right. Someting in the range of 22" or so. To me, the smaller ones just look "cheesy".
And about four or so sponsor decals looks about right. Less is better. The cars back in the day had very few. More than that looks like a NASCAR stocker or a modern drag car to me.
Of course, opinions differ.

I agree. And if you are going to use sponsor decals, it only seem right to actually use the product that you are advertising. Sorry, but a GoodYear decal on a Cobra sporting Yokohoma tires don't cut it for me. It would be like putting Chevrolet emblems on a Mustang. |

To satisfy the requirements for my class, I actually pulled my Billboards off to run my Yokohamas in the Big Bend race. I then forgot to the remove that darn decal. Guess this means I don't get my $1.37 Good Year contingency payment, dang it.  |
