Default Cobra: CSX2009

From Hemmings.com

" The seller of this 1963 Shelby Cobra for sale on Hemmings.com doesn’t tell us much about the Cobra itself, but he does give us the all-important serial number – CSX2009 – which, combined with the World Registry of Cobras and GT40s, tells us quite a bit about the Cobra........."

Seller is asking $1.1 million USD for it.

Note the $1,100,00 price is negotiable with partial trades considered

The sad part about buying a car like this is that you get replica owners pointing out what is wrong with your million dollar original real Cobra.

Fully agree, nice car but just nice. What bugs me the most is, that license plate light in the wrong location, shape and direction.

If it WERE an "original real Cobra", there would be nothing "wrong" to point out! And I forgot to mention that the dash layout, switches and instruments are a complete fantasy. Why, oh, why???

Jeff
Because it was/is a former "race" car and many were modified to suit the drivers needs, plus fenders modified, holes cut into hoods, different bumpers.etc.etc.
Bottom line it is a real Cobra something that absolutely no
"correct" replica will never be, that's why.

The silliest thing at any car show are replica owners arguing over which replica is more correct. Why oh why???

BTW, you got the wrong engine in your replica.

"Modified" doesn't begin to describe what this car is. It is now replica of 1964 competition car that bears absolutely no resemblance to what it looked like before the so-called restoration: I've seen pictures of it. It would have certainly been possible to duplicate this car from its unmolested days. Then it could very easily, and fairly, be called correct.

As for my car's engine, I love everything about it. And it is a thousand times more "correct" than what is in that car.

Gee, I didn't even notice that!

What a horror show!

OK, you can shell out $1mm+ for that so-called "original real Cobra", or you can have this one for 10% of that:

ERA 2131 pictures by jeffy10028 - Photobucket

And these are the cars it is based on:

1964 Shelby Cobra USRRC Roadster - YouTube

csxinfo.net - Photo Gallery

Didn't try to duplicate the dual side pipes, but easy enough to do. Oh, and CSX2557 went for $1.6mm last August. And that car WAS an "original real Cobra".

Poor Jeffy doth protest too much.

One difference is that when you knock on 2009 it goes thunk-thunk and 2131 goes snick-snick.

There is also a slip of paper that goes with 2009 that justifies at least half of the asking price.

What you seem to miss is that one can restore a car to please oneself and not the spectators. The current owner never meant to restore in as-raced form... just to restore to have a driver that could vintage race. That's what pleased him.

Comp 2000's in any form will always command good dollars...team and factory cars will always command top dollar, in any form.

It's a nice car....that really doesn't need "detail denigration"

"Doth protest too much"??? Wow, you really put me in my place... Are you a member of Mensa or something???

I kind of like my exhaust note:

Start up of ERA 289FIA December 15, 2010 - YouTube

As I understand it, that isn't even the original chassis in whatever that is: it's a "replacement". Are there any pieces from the original car in that thing? There certainly don't appear to be, either original, restored or recreated. It is just a fantasy. That's worth a $1mm??? OK. It's a free country.

Your missing the point that car is real yours will never be.

Yours is just a kit car or like some like to say PSB (not aluminum)
. You have some nerve critiquing somebody's real Cobra when all you own is a replica.

If it makes you feel any better your not alone as there seems to be a lot of guys out there like you.

Fortunately not many of them own real Cobras.

The SAAC Registry details the reconstruction and indicates chassis components from the original wreck.

Hey...it's not the only broken-up race car that ever got resurrected. It's a nice clean car, well done...and with a correct title.

I'm perfectly aware of that, and those are beautiful cars too. But they are just fantasies: they aren't "real" just because a piece of paper says so. It's all BS.

OK...that's an opinion. Everyone's got one.

Still nice...still real...and probably out of both of our budgets.

My car is just as "real" as his. If I were to ever own an original Cobra, it would be a car like CSX2557, not a fantasy recreation backed up by a "piece of paper".

And who the hell are you to suggest that the amount of money I choose to spend on toys determines whether or not I'm entitled to have and express an opinion? You, sir, are a moron.
