1964 Shelby Cobra CSX 3063. THE LAST Competition Cobra! We will finish the complete restoration on our 1964 Shelby Cobra 427 CSX 3063 in December 2011. The best thing for me to do is suggest you get a copy of the Cobra Registry footnote for chassis number CSX 3063. It contains many notes about the car. Not all notes in the Registry are facts. FACT: It is the "Last Competition Cobra", it has been featured in numerous magazines and Cobra books, it was a show car in 1966 and is being completely restored to its original glory. We have owned the car for more than 15 years and are now finally able to offer this car to the world. This car is one of more than 60 cars and motorcycles that are being offered individually or as a collection. If you are a serious collector or just like cars this opportunity may be for you! This is a serious car so Serious Inquiries ONLY!

OK so can you let the rest of us in on the secret Ron?
As a SAAC officer, I know you don't like this line from the ad: " Not all notes in the Registry are facts. FACT: It is the "Last Competition Cobra", it has been featured in numerous magazines and Cobra books, it was a show car in 1966 and is being completely restored to its original glory."
This ad being on CL adds to the bad smell...

It's "original glory" consists of a chassis sent to Ghia for use in sort of a concept car that could have been the next generation coil-spring Cobra. As in all rolling stock that left AC, an unused s/n was assigned; it happened to be in the unused Comp sequence.
"The Last Competition Cobra" was a few numbers below this one.

From another CC post on 3063...
"Two 427's received very distinctive bodies, both from the house of Ghia. For CSX3055 John Willment fitted a modified body from a 1950's Fiat 8v. CSX 3063 with a wheelbase 6 in longer than normal was given this rather successful and thoroughly modern-shape as a styling exersize."

No, that's an AC 428. That was a production car.
This chassis was a one-off...drop top and 60's-stylish as well.
I'll see if I can dig up a pic.

The "Ghia" cobra is the one you are looking for. I don't have a picture where I am but look here: Cobra Ghia

In the AC Cars lexicon, any 427 chassis given a CSX 30xx chassis number was designated "comp" whereas the cars that followed with 31xx, 32xx, and 33xx VINs were designated street cars. Hence, when AC Cars billed the chassis for 3063 to Shelby American, they used the phrase "built to racing specification." But 3063 started life as a bare chassis that was stretched 6" in wheelbase, and it was not built originally as a Cobra, much less a 427 comp Cobra. Hence, if as the ad listing states, "the car is being restored to its original glory," that would be a pretty neat trick, as I doubt any specs exist to assist in rebuilding this car back to its 96" wheelbase prototype status.

No, BOTH are "Ghias"' The coupe is better known than the roadster. I have an old Road & Track with pictures of this and the "Cobra XD" (Bordinat Cobra") with a story about possible future "Cobras".

Maybe I can find a Kirkham Body number location to narrow this saga down a bit ???
I will try to measure the car tomorrow to see if it is still 6" longer ???
Thx Bob W.

The car is the proper wheel base car that has been rebodied along the way. I have seen the car several times and it's being repainted now. The car is being done by Cobra Restorers and they are doing what the owner has asked.
