Default Ford color history buffs.....help

I am trying to match the red, white and blue that ford used on some race cars. I have also seen a few cobras with the red, white and blue stripe. I know the white is whimbleton, but what is the red (dark, almost maroon) and the blue (kind of navy)?

Ford used a red with a bit of orange in it....Rangoon Red. My A J Foyt paitshop found it in their books as a paint for early to mid 1960 Mercurys, but the touchup paint I bought matches my replica's "Rangoon Red" perfectly.

It would not be the "almost maroon" you're looking for, though....but if you want a very bright red, you might like that.

Wasn't the blue "Guardsman Blue" and the white "Wimbledon White"?

Cheers!

Dugly

Rangoon Red was a stock Ford color from 1957 (the famous Fairlane 500) until 1968. In 1958 they added another red called "candyapple red". The white, I believe was Avalanche White. It was VERY white. I don't remember what the blue was called.

Wimbledon White is kind of creamy, not pure white. The Cobras didn't use it for their stripes. I seem to remember reading somewhere that the white stripes were Arctic White, a (ahem) Chevy truck color from '65 or so?

Vintage Burgundy is a maroon. I had a Mustang convertible painted that color. Beautiful color, but I wouldn't call it red.

You should be able to Google Guardsman Blue and get a bunch of hits.
