I'm a bit crippled graphics wise at the moment - still replacing equipment and rewiring my office after a major electrical fubar. I have enough of my original cobra artwork on the old backup computer though to throw together an idea for the front. The first is an Adobe Illustrator rendering in 2 colors (black and red), followed by a nicer looking full color Photoshop enhanced version. The Cobra can be any color you want, with or without decals, etc.

As I recall, "Big Daddy" Don Roth sold a T-Shirt years ago with a tire tread and a big red splotch in the center. I believe it was called "Victim"

Love it, Buzz!

I pick the middle one, on the front, on a grey t-shirt, with the tire tread design and the World Championship Tour text / list of race tracks on the back.

I think the list of tracks should be pretty large text, and superimposed over the tire tread design like you see on a rock concert t-shirt.

Great! If someone can post the championship/track info then I can lay it out for approval.

My office/network rewiring is being completed as we speak so if I get the info say by tomorrow, I should be able to catch up on outstanding work for a couple of clients and still post the finished layouts by the weekend.

Daytona, USA
Sebring, USA
Oulton Park, England
Spa, Belguim
Nurburgring, Germany
LeMans, France
Reims, France
Coppa di Enna, Italy

Or it may look better to put the tire track on the front, and the World Tour text down the back.

Or the World Tour text superimposed over the tire track on the back.

If the tire track ends up by itself on the front or back, you could substitute "Mess with this and get run over" in place of the Goodyear text along the side of the tire track?
Just remembered this was posted earlier. Is it good to go as is?

That layout sounds the best to me so far as well. Gotta say though, the "Esso" and "Castol" decals don't look right. If I recall, wasn't Shell the petroleum sponsor?

I'm with Silverback as well, gonna need "American sized" shirts. LOL

Great stuff Buzz. Sounds like we're nearing a final design. I'm still in for doing the grunt work.

Cheers

The decal drawings are just based loosely on the usual static cling vintage sticker set most Cobra places sell today. While I have to be cautious about replicating other peoples' trademark artwork, I don't suppose it would be a big deal for me to search some actual pics "from the day" and make the decals more authentic if that's desired.

It will take a few extra days, though - because while all the elements in the design are already done and on my computer, any new artwork will have to come after I catch up on outstanding work for one Cobra client in particular who has been extremely patient with my unforeseen delays.

Buzz

It may be a good idea to confirm the races in the list. I took that from the internet, and we all know how reliable that is. I'm not currently in a position to get at my literature collection to verify the races.

1965 World Championship Tour
Daytona, USA
Sebring, USA
Oulton Park, England
Spa, Belguim
Nurburgring, Germany
LeMans, France
Reims, France
Coppa di Enna, Italy

Can someone please double-check the races and locations before it goes to print?

Hi Doug D. The Registry shows Monza after Sebring but not Oulton Park.

An after thought. Since we're listing the races, should the graphic be a Daytona instead of the roadster?

Talking Compromise?

The coupe guys would be happy. Then again there's always the ultra-rare and elusive Daytona 427SC Roadster...

I found this site that appears to have the races, dates and results. It looks like Daytonas won most of the points, with 289 roadsters scoring some, too. But I'll be damned if I can figure out just what the definitive list of events and countries should be. Can anyone else make heads or tails out of this?

World Championship 1965

It looks like if we limit the list to races where the Daytonas finished highest, we get:
Daytona, USA
Sebring, USA
Monza, Italy
Spa, Belguim
Nurburgring, Germany
LeMans, France
Reims, France
Pergusa, Italy

Maybe we should use the Daytona-only list just through Reims, since that was when they reportedly had enough points to ensure the win. Not sure why SA entered a Daytona in the next race - maybe just to ensure the win after what happened in '64?

If we include all the races where Cobras, both 289 roadster and Daytona, scored points, we get:
Daytona, USA
Sebring, USA
Monza, Italy
Oulton Park, England
Spa, Belguim
Nurburgring, Germany
Rossfeld, Germany (Hillclimb)
LeMans, France
Reims, France
Pergusa, Italy
Ollon Villars, Switzerland (Hillclimb)
Bridgehampton, USA

I suppose there's some merit to the above post about using a Daytona on the front of the shirt if we only include the races where it competed.

Then again, we could use a 289 roadster and still be technically accurate. The roadsters did score some points, and the championship went to Shelby-American, not to just the Coupes.

I don't want to get too caught up in all this, but I really like the idea of a list of the races for the championship, and we should at least get the list right.

List all the races and a roadster it is. I'm good with that too.

Why not all 3? Make everybody happy. I already have a drawing of an FIA/USRRC, but I have to draw a Coupe. Could be done easily enough in a couple of days.

Default The coupe in in the house

Next question - do we leave the 427 iconic and up front - but driverless - as a nod to the cars that did the actual championship racing?
I can stick a helmeted driver in there, but to me it blocks the roll bar and takes something away from the overall look.

Edit: heading should read - The coupe IS in the house
