Scott, Congratulations on the purchase!!! These cars are great fun. I unfortunately need to sell mine (we own 13 cars total). My price has been reduced to $42K. Only 1800 miles. I have the owners manual & bill of sale if that info helps you. Your pictures were great that you sent me but I could not email you back? I have a new email address also that if you can reply back via email I can resend the info that I have. Read the 3rd or 4th page of this thread & it will give you the specs on these cars. Topgun

Hello All
I am new to this forum. I bought an Excalibur and the pre-owner removed the cat and did "chip tuning" However I have to put the cat back and put the original chip in. Does anyone know where to buy this chip ? Is this an original "5.0 Mustang" chip?
I need to do this because I am going to register this car in California. Any help would be great.

Sky-chicken, NOPE no need for SB100. Your Excalibur is indeed a "real car". 100% manufactured by an authorized motor vehicles building business complete with Federal, EPA and DOT certificates. With the exception of a few early AC cars Excal's are the ONLY replica that can make that claim. If you have removed the the cat's (and a lot of people have) it could be a challenge restoring the exhaust system to "specs". The Aussies use some kind of side pipe catalytic converter which may well be legal and pass inspection, I don't know.

I guess you could say, in fact, there NOT a "replica", they ARE an "Excalibur". The year of the build of the car must meet all the smog requirements of the year in question. Smog pump, catalytic converter etc. Excal had a Federal Exemption on the "safety" issues (air bag, frame strength, seat belts, etc) and because of that exemption they ARE 100% legal in any state.

So what happened to Excal's? As I understand it when the Federal Exemption expired they would have had to go through extensive "crash testing" etc. to meet the guidelines. With the slow sales, low volume and ownership changing hands there was no money for such testing. The doors closed. The "plant" continued to make some kind of small enclosed "travel trailor" for a short time and then went belly up.

A standard electronic computer controller that matches the year of the motor should handle the "chip" problem. There not "that expensive" these days. I'd run the chip and swap out the controller only for "testing" purposes.

WOW that is great news. The owner still has the original cat and is going to ship it with my car. He told me that he does not want it tear apart because there is no way to re-asable the pipes. I was wondering what he was talking about but with your post it makes much more sense now. I have to put the cat back and go from there. The biggest suprise was when I went to the insurence with my VN number ... The car came up in the computer and it wAS NO PROBLE TO GET CHEAP INSURENCE.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that little "insurance thing". Is that cool or what! AND because the car is actually listed in the "special" Kelly Blue Book edition it can be financed just like any other car by a bank or whatever.

As time goes on and it becomes more complex to register "replicas" I DO believe the Excaliburs will become the "sleeper" of the Cobra world. I could see myself buying mine back, a reasonable "investment" if you would. I bought and sold it TWICE all ready and STILL am great friends with the current owner, I love that car!

Did buy the car as an investment as well (that what I told my wife :-) ) Stock is bad for 4 years now ... this is an better investment and I can look at my car every day :-)

I like to know where the engine comes from ?? I know it is an 302 HO with SFE but in there are many types out there ...1980-1993 and 1993-2000 . I want to check for the original computer chip. The owner did some change on the computer chip after he removed the cat. Help would be great.

Does anyone have some pictures from the real factory supercharged JAC427?
I have some questions because I can not find any data for this car.
What is the horsepower with the supercharger and would be the supercharger the only difference ? Witch Kenny Bell supercharger did they install in original in the factory ? (I was reading the thread about someone tried to do it and failed) Would it be possible to send me some pictures from your car, the hood and the engine with supercharger ?
Thank you and my email is mreuterusa@yahoo.com

Have a nice day

Mike

Default recent purchase of Excalibur

I recently purchased an Excalibur Cobra (EC), which was mistaken for a Classic Roadster Cobra. This car may be built from parts provide after EC quite production. It was originally reg in Utah, it carry's a VIN of UT0365, not sure if the 0365 was originally part of the EC VIN as we have no MSO info with the car. We did contact UT DMV and the UT is for Utah but they will not release any other info. The car holds true to the EC frame and body, but the dash is different, no AC and no center drop to the trans hump and different guage set up. Oh ya is sporting a 428 FE with a C6. I have spoke with Alice of Excalibur in WI who is a good source for info as to why EC went under. I also spoke with Don of Classic Roadsters, he says the CR and the EC are basically the same car as many parts are interchangable. He even said the dimensions are the same. If anyone wants more info drop me an email at info@avtech-exams.com Ken

Well, the car was registered in CA about 2-3years ago, so it was just your standard high CA tax DMV transfer, the plates also say "66 CBRA" which is kinda cool. I will be looking into the SB100 soon, I understand that CA allows a limited number vehicles to change over each year. but that will probable change about the time I try to do it LOL :O).

SB100 are 500 every year but next year suppose to increase to 1000. All gone by January 5. Why do you need this when the car is already registered ? No problem for me. It is a 1996 but the sticker on' the hood shows "smog legal for 1995 test" what means no ODBII test and than the smog test was easy.

Excal's only came with 302's. ANY other engine indicates the car was either modified after production or was one of the very few cars left over after the factory closed and was completed by an individual. In either case it is not compliant with Calif or Federal law and would require SB100 or some other registration method.

EDIT:
I defer to my esteemed colleage, Ohekk, keeper of the Excalibur flame!
