Suggestions???
Greetings to all.
So last Friday my bride and I were out for a run to eat dinner in the cobra. I had not driven it in some time.
There has not been any high RPM moves since last year and this run was the clean it out before "spring cleaning".
Anyway, I gave it a little while going onto the freeway and the shifter was shaking violently.
I thought maybe the Harmonic balancer had failed ( fuild type ). Replaced that wednesday. That is not it.
So: Engine is Boss 351, B&B, with Ford Boss balancer. The vibe is RPM related as I can feel it with the car parked ( no drive shaft ).
I am thinking I lost something in the flywheel, Pressure plate or clutch.
ANYONE with additional ideas what to chime in???
I want to make London - so this is a fix it now type thingie.
Thanks for any help.

Something wrong with engine/clutch balance will show up when you rev the engine with the transmission in neutral. What happens with yours?

Yes, that is when it vibrates. Trans in is neutral and gets worse as the RPM goes up.

If it was fine when you parked it and then when you started it back up and there was a viberation then one thing that I would check is to see if some little critter stuffed something in your bellhousing. You know, storing it away for the winter.
Hay, you never know!!!

Try it clutch in and clutch out. Look for missing bolts on the dampner. Double check all the stuff that goes 'round for things that aren't where they used to be. Next would be to drop the pan and search around there. JMHO

Does it make any difference if the clutch is in or out?
Check the motor mounts. Bring up the engine RPM's to 2000 or so and drag the clutch a little with the brakes on. Does the enginer move?
It could be rare, but take the belts off and try it. Still vibrate?
Let us know if any of those things make a difference.

Okay - after a few hours of remove the trans, bell housing and everything to the crank, We have a pressure plate that pulled the steel out of the flywheel.
Damn if I know how, but the pressure plate is cracked.
New parts are on order. Now it is a race to see if part arrive before London.
Thanks all.

nothing to it.
A few years ago I was checking the Cobra over before the London trip. I found a rear seal leaking. Removed the wheel and axle. I decided to order new axles from Summit. Ordered the wrong axles, three days before we were to leave. Call Summit and they shipped the correct axle and I received them the next day. One day shipping out of Atlanta for us.Then I had to go to four part stores to get ten studs. I got the axle in a couple of hours before we pulled out for Ohio.
You have plenty of time!
