Question Midstates Owner Question

I have a Midstates Cobra that has yet to see the pavement. I am in the final stages of completing my wiring and prepping for my fisrt start. While it has been a long road, I am really ready to get the Cobra on the road.

I am hoping there is a Midstates Owner that purchased a Dr. K wiring harness. All wiring has been completed except I have been unable to locate the wiring to connect for the turn signals. All lights including the flashers are functioning properly but this wire is missing...Any electricians out there that may be able to fill in where this wire should be initialed...please jump in.

Sorry I can't help, but have you contacted Shell Valley?

Midstates and Shell Valley merged a few years ago, they may be able to help even if the wiring harness is not their product. I visited the shop and they had a bunch of very competent guys in there...the one who was responsible for narrowing their Ford 9" rear ends wore a white lab coat as he did his measurements

Good luck...electrical issues can be the biggest bugaboo regarding these builds!

Cheers!

Thanks Yer...I have already spoken to Dana at Shell Valley and none of the current tech's worked with the particular wiring harness that I have. I am hoping one of the previous builders of the Midstates can hook up with me to discuss the problem I seem to have. And you are right, I have been struggling with the wiring for the past few months.

Please post a pic of your fuse panel. If it is the same one I have maybe I can help you.

Why not give Dr. K a call, they can probably walk you through it.

Perhaps post your question on the Midstates forum board:

Midstates Cobra's---Speak with Bob Kallio - Club Cobra

I realize Midstates ceased being an independent manufacturer some time ago, but the Midstates board has a lot of readers, the brand was pretty popular in its day. The last time I heard anything about Bob Kallio he was working with Shell Valley, but he may have stopped that...Shell Valley went out of business for a short period and I think the business may have been bought and resurected without Bob...it might be worth calling Dana again, maybe he can connect you with Bob or give Bob your number so he can call you?

Here's hoping you're on the road soon, smiling ear to ear!

Cheers!

Default turn signal wiring

I have a midstates, it uses a F600 (school bus) turn signal switch.
That is what Bob was using when I built the car, the generic wiring harness
were crap back then so I made my own. What TS switch do you have?
I have the schematic that I made for the wiring.

Unfortunately Dr. K retired, closed shop and I probably recieved one of his last wiring harnesses. I will try to post a picture of the fuse block as well.

427MudFlap I have an Ididit steering column with the turn signals. We have adapted and reworked several of the wiring splices to hopefully prevent future failures. I am hopeing the issue is a simple wire missing from the turn signal harness. GMS if you could send me what you have, send to: borshed@hotmail.com.

I am going to visit the Mistates Cobra's and visit with Bob Kalio. I know when I worked with him he was always very helpful. After he sold Midstates I did not realize he was still hanging around. Thanks again and I will keep plugging along with your assistance...

As I recall I have the Dr. K harness. I will see if I can find the diagrams when I get home. We recently moved but I think that I know were they are. Unfortunately the car is still in storage so I can tell you where the wire is but hopefully the diagrams will help.

Hey guys, not sure how old this post is but I'm needing some help with my Shell Valley car...and Dr K's harness. Dana sent me info today but it was for a Painless harness. Car was built in 99-00 if that helps. Seem to be having some ground issues. My dim headlights are almost NO headlights. Have to drive with the brights on. Also, when I turn my headlights on my temp gauge will instantly just up about 10-15 degrees. I'm thinking my lights may be trying to get a ground through my gauges if that's possible. Any schematics out there...or any ideas?
Thanks, Ray

Something to try thats quick and easy. Take a set of jumper cables and clamp one to the engine block somewhere and the other side to the frame. Then try the lights and see if that helps. Sounds like a bad ground to me.

Already tried that Mike. But thanks anyway. I feel sure it's a ground issue, just haven't figured it out yet. One of the junctions going to the fuse box acts the same way with my test light (dim). I disconnected both wires at the junction but it didn't solve anything. That's why I'd really like to get a schematic so I can run the wires down.

I know this thread is old but I'll ask anyway...

I've been working on a Friend's Unique Cobra and have been trying to sort out some electrical issues. The kit is older (has the MG front end) and has a Mustang 302 with a Dr. K's wiring harness. Does anyone have a schematic for this harness? I'd be glad to pay any reasonable expense for a copy.
