Having a fit getting my old steering column off

I've finished rewriting everything behind the dash and I'm ready to put the new dash in. I cannot see any way to pull the steering column out. Everything is off except the shaft and aluminum housing. There are no bolts or connections visible all the way down to the first "U" joint.

I plan to replace the column with a new tilt Flaming River but....

Frustrated!!!

dls 141. If you have the steering shaft unhook and the 2 mounting supports the whole unit should drop down and you should be able to slide it out of the dash. If you could get a could of pictures of the problem we might be able to walk you through it. You are trying to remove the steering column and not the steering wheel or hub? This should be more than a 2-3 hour job if you have all the parts. Rick L.

Well I ended up cutting it out. Apparently the builder back in the day decided it would be a good idea to weld the shaft into the housing.
