When did you start your insurance?
There is a ton of information on the forum about insurance but the one thing I haven't come across is information on insuring the car for transporting it home and during the build. Did most of you go through home owner's insurance? I've been fortunate to not have to deal with insurance much over the years so don't know the options here...
Thanks for any input,
Kevin

Our homeowners insurance covers it through the build.
Getting separate coverage as soon as it's ready to inspect and title.

Call your homeowner's insurance agent and ask if boxes of parts (or a non completed vehicle) are covered under your homeowner's policy and if there is a limit to the dollar amount you can claim. Some companies won't insure incompleted vehicles. Some will. Best to be sure!

We're talking about play money here " not having
A separate insurance plan in motion regardless of build stage
Or completed is just silly.
Good luck to all trying to get homeowners to settle a claim.
I couldn't even get a flawless 3 k les Paul taken care of.
Imagine boxes of parts and an in motion project shell.
I put insurance on the second I lay out a dollar"

I picked up insurance when it came back from paint. I drove around the neighborhood a few times with nothing before just to make sure there were no huge glaring problems I wanted to resolve before paint.
I'm not yet titled or inspected, but I feel pretty confident I could talk my way out of those little shortfalls with a new, current insurance policy. Worse case, I get a couple of minor, non moving violation tickets.
I only believe in insuring things that I couldn't recover from...like 3 million dollar medical bills and house burning down. This car is play money. If it was stolen in the build process, yea, it would be a hickey, but my financial wellbeing wouldn't be affected. I do now have full coverage because it's a good risk reward balance, and it's the other guys I'm worried about.

I insured mine last winter thinking I might have it driveable this summer (not happening). Prior to that I probably should have consulted the holder of my home insurance about coverage.

I came to a point of realization that I had a non-running car and about $20K-$25K worth of parts sitting around in boxes, in the attic, and partially assembled onto the chassis. I called my homeowners agent, and when he said "No, your homeowners doesn't cover it", then I got insurance.
