Soft Top - ISO the Perfect Fit, or Just a Decent One...
I've had my top for years. From day one, it had a gap in the middle where the holding pins didn't hold. Someone who owned an original posted something to the tune of "they all were like that" so, since I hardly ever use it, I just lived with it and said that one day I'd pursue it. Well, today was the day. Here's a shot of the way it has looked for years:
After really taking the time to figure out what was going on, I could see that the frame rails on the top were not going down over the screw bosses that the sun visors were attached to. The top rails would catch on the edges, and when you cinch down the clips, the holding pins in the center of the top would pop out of the track. Spreading the top rails apart so they would go over them was the trick. There are small pieces of blue tape in the pic that I used to mark the spots that needed spreading.
The holding pins now hold the top down in the middle of the windshield, and the top rails track nicely along the length of the windshield.
The top actually fits very well.

I haven't fitted my top yet so I'm not exactly clear on what you have done - but it appears to have worked real well. I hope I can figure this out when the time arrives.

I always loved the look of the car with the top but never wanted the driving restriction. It looks more like a little English roadster which is charming. Yours actually fits pretty well as I've seen some poor ones.
I'm sure I'll regret this but I actually want you to post a photo.
Take a nice full side view from as close as you can. No dogs or hands please.
I'll overlook the fact that it's beige...

Whenever I put the top on mine (seldom) I found it necessary to remove the visors & hardware.

The trick is getting the "holding pins" fastened inside the track at the top of windshield and then making sure the top rails fit all the way down over the top of the windshield. You install the holding pins one at a time in the open slot in the middle of the top of the windshield. You then pull each rail of the top to the sides and it locks in. You then push the rails down flush over the top of the windshield. When done properly, it makes a pretty nice seal. Here is a pic of the holding pins. If you don't deal with them properly, your top will never fit.

The side curtains add a little charm, don't you think?

Nice Job on the install. A snug fitting 1/4" thick strip of rubber (not foam) in the bottom of the rail will help it seal quite well too, and retain the vinyl material in the rail itself. These things get to flapping pretty well and the sound of the exhaust is really heightened wi the top on. If you are close to 6' tall it will be difficult seeing out the sides when making lane changes or turns. Look twice!

My ERA top fits very well. It is securely attached all around and does not flap excessively, at least up to 65mph. It is harder to see traffic around the car as well as harder to get in and out of though. But it does keep the sun off here in sunny Arizona.

OK - I remember seeing the pins in the front bows. I'll pay close attention to that.
Thanks Patrick
