First Ticket
I have had my Cobra since 07 and have had many a cop say how nice it looked an I would tell them that there were so many of them that you could never blow the carbon out of it an many said give them a call. But I never did because you can not trust them, any way I was going to a car show today in Sylvania Ga on Hwy 21 the speed limit was 65 on a road with no traffic early in the am so I was cruising about 73 when it suddenly it changed to 55 an I did not slow down like I should have an as I rounded a curve there sat a cop on the wrong side of a 4 lane road facing the wrong direction shooting radar at me. He made a uturn an turned his blue lights on an I stopped he asked where I was going an what time I was supposed to be there an I told him 9am. He said he liked My car but he still gave me a ticket. Its a first in the cobra. But he is a typical cop an if he was on fire an I could piss on him to put it out he would be a burntup SOB. Its a speed trap to rob people leaguly

Gee, who'da guessed that a pro-law enforcement guy like yourself would have gotten a ticket based on your apparent support of those who protect and serve? Just goes to show you those bastards are out to get us!.....yours truly, a retired cop

I got caught in a neighborhood trap (actually pulled over in my own driveway waiting for the garage door to rise) for apparently not coming to a 100% dead stop at the corner stop sign. Apparently, a guy in the neighborhood, who was tired of people cutting through complained enough to the city that they positioned a cop at the top of the block for two solid weeks. I hadn't any specific memory of that particular stop that day but I don't have a habit of running stop signs or even rolling through them, so I'm sure I was barely rolling. But - I could deal with it until the young cop said - Sir, I wouldn't normally pull you over for that, much less ticket you, but I have orders today to give a ticket to every person I can stop in this neighborhood. He kind of lost my respect there. By the time the two weeks was up I think half the neighbors had a ticket and the other half were afraid to leave the driveway.
But in reality - it wasn't the cop who was just trying to make a living - it was the idiots down in the city hall telling them how to do their job.

Dang Flip, didn't know you couldn't trust me. Caught doing 18mph over the limit, what did you think was going to happen?

Speed limits and their enforcement often have nothing to do with safety and security. It's all about revenue generation. Always has been, and always will be. That's why there are quotas and traps. All the cops I know and trust even admit to that - in private.

I have had a continuous flow of tickets from about a month after I got my license...caught drag racing the 43 Plymouth 1/2 ton flatbed I used for irrigating the vineyards against a friend driving a slightly newer Ford version of the same style. I have been on the edge of having a suspended license at least a half dozen times. I had the old driving school films memorized and I still can't jump to the tests and pass on the newer internet schools.
For every damn ticket I get, I should've gotten five more.
Yes, it's expensive and court/schools are a PITA. That being said, I get along with cops just fine. I've actually flagged a few down over the years to let them know what dumb moves they had made...I've only had one not take it kindly.
Makes life a bit more interesting.

Probably - in my case by the time Court day rolled around and everyone in the neighborhood showed up with their tickets along with all the other misc cut through offenders, the line for court stretched through City Hall and way out into the parking lot. While standing in line I heard lots of people all grumbling about my neighborhood and the trap. For me however - 60 years old and a clean record - it was just 6 months probation and no fine and out the door.
I'm not sure anyone speaks to the neighbor any more who complained to the city.

I agree, support the officers, their only doing their job to protect us all. I don't know how, but driving my cobra for 12 years now, I've never been stooped and I'm always getting on it, safely I should say.
I took my mother in the cobra to my sisters house where I was building a deck for her . Later in the day I looked at the clouds and could tell a storm was coming, so we left. It came in real fast and it was a complete downpour, and I was speeding down a 35 mph one-way street at around 50 mph. I came over a slight hill and a officer had his radar pointed right at me. I kept on driving and looking in my mirror for the famous red & blue flashing lights and worried that when he stopped me, us and the car would be a big bathtub. Well,.... he never stopped me !
He either felt sorry for my elderly mother or the Cobra, either way, I was lucky !

Gee flip,
After all you were breaking the law and speed trap or not you were in the wrong. I haven't had a ticket in any of my cars since 1969 but I have sure deserved some. Normally here if you aren't doing something stupid like weaving back and forth they will give you 5 MPH over the posted limit. But don't count on it as the CHP officer may have had a bad day. And when I bought my Taurus a year ago I thought the speedometer was reading way slow as I would be doing 70 in a 70 zone and everyone was just flying by me. I saw a CHP officer in one of the Cameros as I was driving on the freeway and flagged him over. He asked me what I wanted and I told him I would like to get a speedometer check as I wasn't sure mine was very accurate. He said ok, I will get in front and set the radar at 60 MPH and you follow me. We went about 2 miles and pulled over and my speedometer was actually reading about 3 miles an hour fast. He told me that was why he used the radar as the speedometer on the Camero was reading about 58. Most of the police of any branch around here that I have had any dealings with are nice and will help if they can. If I am doing 70 in a 55 zone I wouldn't be mad at the cop for pulling me over, no matter what kind of car I was driving. And I figure that I got away with enough to make up for any tickets that I did get back then.

"I was cruising about 73". Flipscobra, what was the speed limit? If it was less than 73mph then your expression of consternation is an acknowledgment of you own stupidity. You attitude toward law enforcement is contemptible. You disgust me.

Flip,
You've admitted that you were speeding and should have slowed down.
You knowingly break the law and get a citation, yet the officer is somehow in the wrong?
You would not piss on the officer if he were on fire!
You're a class act and a real jackass.

Computerworks, let me apologize if I violated forum protocol. But when that type of vitriol is expressed on this or any other public forum, it is the responsibility of all reasonable people to confront it. I will add no further comment regarding this matter.

To me, this "it isn't my fault" attitude is pervasive in our culture. No one accepts any responsibility for their actions any longer.
If I get caught going 18 mph over the posted speed limit, I have no one to blame but myself. It's not the cop's fault that caught me. It's not the city's fault for changing the speed limit. It's not the sun's fault for blinding me. It's all on me and my lead foot.
