Default Go Pro cameras

In regards to cameras. I understand most people are using the Go Pro camera. Which one is the best and about how much do they cost?

I was at a Best Buy store a few moments ago and briefly checked out the Go Pro camera. I saw two versions - one for $229 and the other for $129 or $130. What the difference is I couldn't tell you (didn't have my glasses!)...but I know these prices did not include any of the neat accessories you would need...

I don't know that you need a lot of their accessories, but if it were me, I'd opt for the version with the external microphone jack and get a mic to go with it.

I have the earlier version of the GoPro without the external mic. The camera is easy to use and has good image quality and stability for the price, but the sound quality is not very good. Tends to get overwhelmed by wind noise. Doesn't capture that great Cobra sound.

I agree with Brian. If you get a chance look at some of Deck Officers videos he made in his Track T. Going down the highway at 90 MPH and you can hear them talking in their regular voice as there is no wind noise. Also some of the Cobra guys want the sound of the Cobra to be louder and you can place an external mike where you get the sound that you want. You may have to buy an extension cord that plugs into the regular cord though as I think it is only 6' long.

I would go with the Gopro Hero 2. It has the external mic and the video quality is infinitely better than the Gopro HD.

Best price would be here...
Amazon.com: GoPro HD HERO2: Motorsports Edition: Camera & Photo

I was $390 at best buy for the same thing.

I purchased the Contour. Much less of a footprint. Easier to attach to a helmet. Doesn't stick up in the air to catch branches or overhead obstructions.
Has all the same mounting brackets as the go pro.

I just got the Hereo 2 and I'm looking for an external mike. Since it records in stereo, my ideal would be to have a mike in each footwell to pickup sidepipe sounds from each side.
Anyone have any suggestions? Would I run two mikes, or one stereo mike that I might put on the tranny tunnel?
I did by two extras so far. One is the rollbar mount and the other is the skeleton back.

I bought the Hero2 and love it. In addition to the external mike, the other advantage the 2 has over the 1 is the LCD display. The 1 gives codes you have to decipher for the camera settings, where the 2 puts it in plain language.

I'm in it for for about $500. That includes the camera and a bunch of accessories. The accessories include: extra batteries, charger, external display, camera mount, handle, long life battery, case and some floats. Expensive, but well worth the price.

By the way, I used it on vacation in the Fla Keys and it worked great. Used it for a kayak excursion, snorkeling and touristy things around Key West.

YouTube has some comparison side-by-side videos of the Go-Pro and the Contour.

the go pro is fun, but i recommend an iPhone and the app called Harry's Lap Timer.
It has 1000's of tracks, follows you in GPS, makes nice video with telemetry overlay, and has a "track timer" mode to show you segment times, predicted laps/etc.

i plan to run two iPhone's next year. One taking video and one running the "track timer". I'll wait a few more weeks to get the iPhone5 though
