Welcome Marc.
I'd say the first step is to check out Cobra Country to get familiar with different brands and their respective price ranges.
Second thing is to find the closest cobra club or group to see as many cars as possible in person.
Then spend time browsing this forum to see the good and bad of these kind of cars. They are very cool, but not very practical and some find they are not really for them.
Keep us posted on your progress.

Hey Marc- I'm the PA guy in the same boat as you! I'm watching your post as well, hoping to catch any other shopping advice. Best of luck in your search! If I see any in the FL area as I'm shopping, I'll forward it to you.

Marc,
Where are you located in Florida? The Deep South Cobra Club is having their annual gathering the Reptile Roundup in October in the Ocala
area.http://deepsouthcobraclub.cloverpad.org/

Where in PA are you? If you're interested in a backdraft, you can check mine out (not for sale though, but will give you an idea if it's something you want to pursue).

Marc,
There are some really well built Factory Five Cobras in your price range. However, I highly suggest that you pay someone to inspect them for you before you purchase. I suggest this as you are a newbie, and most likely are not sure what to look at in regards to quality of the build.

As the owner of the Backdraft for sale on EBAY, you might be suprised at the low reserve on this car. The auction ends in 12 hours

1 hour left, good luck with the sale. I'm sure you already have, but if it doesn't sell on ebay, it's worth talking with the interested parties on this site.

You can buy a very good car for that ....
And have a lot of fun... it is going to be a used car and that has both advantages and disadvantages.
Be honest about what you want and how you are going to use it. There is a hell of a difference in " livability " between a weekend driver and a 500 hp competitive track or drag car.
I would buy a factory built car with a MSO that has a clear and clean title and since I can't see very well and don't know what the hell I am looking at anyway, I would hire a pro to inspect it.
Of course there are very good garage built cars to be bought, but I would not be able to make that judgement so I would go with a factory build.
They are a lot of fun. Good hunting, that is part of the fun...bart

We are developing an Excel spreadsheet of Cobra manufacturers and engines. I have it on Google Drive and you can access the spreadsheet at:
https://docs.google.com/open?id=0BzDEWrGReQaQRXhNMWpHTmFRQTg
The hope is we can collect all the informaiton about the various manufacturers and share it to provide easy access to our favorite hobby. The intent is to keep it unbiased and factual with few opinions.
Please download the spreadsheet and take a look. If you have any updates or want to include any new criteria, make the changes to the spreadsheet and email it to me at WFridrich@comcast.net.
Thanks,
