Default Anyone recreate the old stenciled Goodyear tires

Has anyone attempted to recreate the look of the old Goodyear tires where the name was stenciled on the sidewall? I love the nostalgic look of them but, obviously don't see them much at all on the replicas.

Click on FORUMS on this site, drop down to the CLUB COBRA TECH AREA and click on TIRES AND WHEELS. There are two posts that cover this subject there. One guy painted M/T tires with large Goodyear lettering and he details how he did it and on the other post someone made stencils that can be copied and downloaded if you want to paint the the lettering on your own tires. Enjoy.

A lot of us have billboards on our cars. You can still buy them at Roger Kraus Racing. Those guys are great to deal with. I like the bigger wheels but nothing beats the look of the Goodyear Billboards. They are not DOT approved and a lot of people do paint other tires with great success. Good Luck.

I purchased the stencil kit from Raceline Digital and they wern't even close to correct for my 15" tires. I gave them my tire size and they sent me sonmthing for a Bigfoot tire, not even close to the arch of my tire. Of course, they don't offer any refunds, so in the trash went their product.

Tim,
Are you sure that's not what you needed? The bigfoot, I mean 'Billboard' stenciling is HUGE. I don't have experience with their stencil, though.
Cobrakidz' stencil looks to be medium sized and I don't believe those are 'Billboard' tires.
Don't we assume that billboard stenciling means the huge size, not just the fact that is says Goodyear?

Aside from the letters beign about 25% larger, the curve was for about an 18" tire rather than a 15" tire. The stencel couldn't be used in any fashion for my 15" tires.

Tim,
Hmmm. Maybe the reason for the stencil size was to paint larger rimmed tires? They do make Goodyear stencils for 17's and 20's. Maybe they shipped the wrong one?
But then again, those letter would probably be smaller, and not 25% larger as you mentioned.
Oh, well. At least I didn't tell you to safety wire your stencil.
