Caution-no where in this thread does "just dreamin' state that these are magnesium Halibrands. He just describes the markings on them which I think are also on aftermarket non-Halibrand wheels.
To my eye they are either Trigo or PS aluminums. To wit:
The centers look like the 'standard' gray powder finish.
The valve stems are in the webs, not the outer rim area.
The shoulders of the rims may be different.
The brighter finish looks like aluminum that has dulled over time.
These are mine-from the Halibrand factory circa 1991. The centers are natural as cast which has turned from heat and is clear coated with acrylic-not powder.Rims are polished with Nuvite. Compare to above:

Halibrand wheels have Halibrand cast into them. The difference between early and late is whether the Halibrand lettering reads straight across or wraps around the elliptical end of the hole.

So to clarify further for these guys, my late Halibrands show the logo and type/size designations straight across the web and on webs 180 degrees apart.

Good point chas I dont think these are magnesium at all and I certainly dont want someone buying these believing they are. I dont know how Trigo or PS etc can produce a clone and mark them as Halibrand if Halibrand are still trading? Dont you have trade marks etc there. My other set came with knock off spinners that have Halibrand cast into one of the ears of each of these.
Further if these clones are available and they look the part why would anyone without an original csx want original magnesium Halibrand on their replica. I am not being critical here but I am being confused. Someone care to enlighten me. Kind regards.

To be clear, I did not mean to imply that you were misrepresenting them. To your credit, as I said, you never called them 'magnesium' wheels.
I can answer why those without CSXs would want them. In my case it was the desire for their lightness from a performance standpoint. Also their original beauty which the minor differences the aluminum wheel makers failed to capture. My feeling is that the only impetus for the alloys is the ease of maintenance compared to magnesium.
Evan may want them because he has a CSX. Rodknock may want them for his KMP because;
He loves the light weight which his car is known for,
He loves their appearance,
He's nuts-
No, I don't think they're just for CSXs-if you want to pay the price of admission. Indeed, many restored original Cobras are fitted with Trigos!

concerning Chas' points; I did learn from Fran that he could put the stems in the webs or the rim. Maybe they're from one of his runs?
And how about weighing them?

MY fronts weigh 17.2 pounds - rears, 19.7. With mounted Billboards, 35 and 42-including balance weights.
An interesting other difference I noticed from the Aussie wheels and mine are the hub face (the pin area) -his are scolloped and mine are cylindrical.
Dunno if all Halibrands are the same as mine. Something else for you to look for.

Crosswaithe & Gardner lists the GT40 style in magnesium on their site. I contacted them earlier this year asking them if they still offered them. They said that they did, but they never responded to my further enquiry as to price. Maybe if they thought that there was some Internet, they would consider producing a run.
