Default Set of REAL Halibrands

What should a REAL set of Halibrands go for?

Looking to acquire a set.

Thanks.

Where were you a year ago?

By "real" do you mean Halibrand magnesium Cobra II reissues from about 8-10 years ago? I think they're going for at least $3k from someone willing to part with them.

And if anybody has a set, I've got a set of original Sunbursts if anyone with mags want to make a creative exchange.

Re-issues? Evan wouldn't have those clones... only the real thing will do.

Evan - ~$10K if you can find them.

Chas - you should have bid your wheels out before you sold the car and taken Trigos in return as part of the deal.

I just reread your post. $10k for ORIGINALS. Right?

The new owner is even more crazed to have them than I was.
It 'made' my crummy old car for him
Evan-if you find a set, leave them raw and let them turn-or you'll be sorry.
Adds that original look too...

Chas, weren't yours clearanced (with a lathe) for the ERA front, or maybe rear? They wouldn't fit a CSX or KMP.

Yes, 10-12K

Figure another 2K to have the inners sealed properly as magnesium is quite porous in natiure.

Yes they were. IIRC, fronts were cut .400". No cut in rears.
For the record, mine are now 21 years old, made in '91.
They are Cobra II's from the last Halibrand factory. Also IIRC, Barry Blackburn owned the company then.
So these are past that 8-10 yr. old batch discussed earlier.
There may have been small batches by M&A or others in that interim.

I have a set of 4 real magnesium Halibrands here. New old stock, they were most probably cast in the 1990s. They are powder coated black, however I'm about to have the powdercoating stripped off and give them a dichromte plating (Dow 7).

Never used, just a little dust on them from laying around. "Halibrand" and "3007 7.50x15 CobraII" is cast in on the front side.

The wheels are drilled for use with knock of adapters like the Vintage and Trigo wheels. Ford and jaguar/Chevy bolt circle. I have everything included with them, wheels, adapters, knock offs, lug nuts and center caps.

The reason why I don't already have them on my car is that it is a set of four wheels wiht the dimensions of 7.5" x 15". They'd be perfect for a street 427 (i.e. CSX3134 has the narrow Halibrands on all four corners), however my car has the wide fender flares and I need two of them in 9,5x15 for the rear axle.

I know the chance is nearly zero, however if there's someone out there who has a set of four magnesium Halibrands in 9.5x15 and would be willing to trade in one pair for two 7.5x15 wheels I'd be more than happy to do this. They don't need the Halibrand name cast in, but they have to be magnesium and fit the Halibrand or Vintage wheels adapters (these two won't interchange). I'm willing to give the adapters away with the wheels if the 9,5s fit the Vintage adapter.

There's absolutely no way on earth to get them new, Halibrand doesn't make them anymore and I had no success finding another source.

Simon

Halibrand doesn't make them now, but they still own the molds and they're still in business. A couple members here on this site have discussed making them again and I think they may eventually. Once the economy gets better. Last I checked, the Halibrand Cobra mag molds are still at the M&A Castings, but not in use and not for sale.

I believe the last production run of the Cobra II's was around the Year 2000. I missed out on a couple sets over the years, always being "a day late." I would love to find a set someday.....PUH-LEEZE!

Pond makes them now too. There's no shortage of SOHC heads now.

Also, I don't have to remodel my car to install a set of mag wheels some day, somewhere over the rainbow.

I just went out to the shed to check my tyre rack. I have a spare set of halibrand cobra 11 in 15 x 7.5 and 9.5 pin drive. These were used on a car for a short time and were replaced by a set of big brakes and 17 in wheels. There are four are wheels only and I am in Australia. I hadnt considered selling them but I would if the offer was right. How much? I have no idea, but if your serious mayby something can be worked out. Regards John

Assuming Evan (REAL 1) doesn't want them, because he wants originals, then send me some pics and what you want for them. Thanks.

Not so good news from this end. I cleaned off the brake dust and grime etc and found that the two front rims are marked on the inside, caused by the brake calipers being too big. This has left scratches in a area about two ins wide. They are about 1/16 in deep but one is a little deeper. I imagine that would pour cold water on the subject. The rears have no such marks and are very good. Photos if still wanted will mean I have to work out how to post.
