Default Magnesium hunters...

This popped-up on the home page gallery photos. It was posted in 2006 and I have not seen the OP here since.
But it's a perfect shot of what you're searching for and what to be careful of...

This one led a tough life. Those chips in the face and web are from hammer hits and it appears to have a curb scuff. Even a lead hammer can do that. It shows you how soft they really are.
I don't think I'd buy this one fearing splits and fractures through the web from the chips. If I HAD to have it, I'd insist on x-ray / magnafluxing.
Caveat Emptor -especially at today's prices.

There are some very good reasons that you don't find wheels made of magnesium any more. Have you ever seen a magnesium fire?

Did someone say magnesium? Where?

I know Chas does this stuff to irritate me.

Magnesium is still used today for wheels. It's the Year 2012. Almost 2013. Welcome to the brave new world. Materials, technology and techniques have a changed a little. Just a little bit.

I am trying to save what's left of an inheritance for your heirs-before you make an exorbitant magnesium plunge...
