Well Cobra's were never AC's .....so i guesss its a Cobra emblem.

There're lots of pics of original Cobras with the AC center piece still attached. I don't really know what is correct but I know they exist. |

I read somewhere that the original small block cars were delivered with AC buttons, and the original big block cars were delivered with Cobra buttons.

Basically correct. The coil spring Shelby cars used two different versions of the Cobra emblem button.
BTW, 260 & 289 Cobras were AC's. Referred to as either Shelby AC Cobras or AC Cobras. There is nothing on a leaf spring Cobra that says Shelby. |

That's true! Correct for an S/C would be a nut/washer.

I think he is asking about the steering wheel, not the nose emblem Oh, sorry, I now see you were referencing my comment about 'Shelby' appearing on the car. You're correct about CSX 2000. ;-)

I have a replica and used the black AC emblem fo a steering wheel cap. Mainly because I like the look. I say use whatever you like. It's not going to fool anyone into thinking that your car is original if it's not.

Lippy, if I was going for a street look I'd personally opt for the AC script on a timber wheel. I think it adds an edge of class, and steers it away from the "hoon" race look.
However if I wanted a race look and had all the red & blue anodized bits, with fire extinguisher in sight and race decals I'd certainly opt for the red/white/blue cobra logo on a leather steering wheel. I think it adds that finished look with toughness to boot.
As to which one is correct... The one I chose would be correct for me!  |

I have all three and swap them in and out to suit my mood. It's like wearing jewelry, I suppose. 
Interesting thread though, as the lines do get blurred over time. |
