Default Jag IRS with wheel bearing play

When jacked up my Unique with Jag IRS has aprox. .025 play at the circumference of the tire. Both wheels have the same play. Is this normal for the wheel bearings on this setup? If not, how is it corrected? Add more torque to the center nut?

Factory Jag bearing end play is 0.002"-0.006". Translate that to the edge of the wheel > ~.010"-.030", so you are near the outer limit of bearing play.

I'm sure you have, but make sure the wheel is seated all the way. On pin drive wheels, if the chamfer isn't cut deep enough in the center, it will bottom out & the wheel will not tighten.

Adding additional torque to the center nut will not reduce the play. The hub assembly has shims that control the preload (really end play)on the bearings. You might check out this thread that describes how to set up the bearing correctly. Rick

That bearing spacer he mentions is pretty easy to change even on the car. You do need to measure end float and know what thickness spacer you need to change it to.

When checking the wheel bearing play always check it with hands placed at 9 o'clock and 3, So as to not get U joint play added in. Even at 9 and 3 you may still be getting play from the lower pivot bearing.
The most common problem I found with loose wheel bearings was when the inner bearing (closest to the UJ) loses it grip on the inner part of the wheel flange and spins, the bearing will now start to hog itself into the inner seal race. Not a very good design really, it provided plenty of work over the years. Better would have been a spacer tube with shims between the bearings. This would clamp all the bearings in place when the outer nut is tightened.
