Mickey Thompson Street Comp Tires
Thinking of trying their new Street Comp Tire on my Cobra for general road use and track days - anybody used them yet and what is your impression of them?

So you have 17 or 18 inch wheels then? The tires look like a decent choice, but no 15s are available.
We have customers on both the M/T "ST" tires and the "SR" tires in 15 inch and both seem to perform very well for the price.

I use the SR radials, i have 15" rims.
they look like nice tires, but for the guys running 15 inch they wouldn't look right even if they were offered in 15's. When I looked at the overall diameter the 18's have the same overall as my 15" SR's.
so they would probably have a big airspace between the top of the tire and the body

M T tires
I bought a pair of the 26-12-15 S R's for my Cobra. I had them mounted on new rims but have not install them on the car. Tomorrow??
But today we picked up Coach's new Unique and it has the same tire on it. Looks good.
M. T. has a 28-12-15 and a 26-12-15.
if you want more tire to fill in the dead cat space use the 28" tire. Be sure to check the calculator for cruise speed rpms.
not the best side view pic but it's all I have now.

Thanks for the feedback - I thought of the SR but the tire agents said that they were more acceleration oriented than cornering and wouldn't recommend them for road course track days.
I currently run 295 X 50 X 15 Herculese P400s at the rear and 235 X 60 X 15s at the front on 23 year old steel rims that have been widened by welding in a strip at the rear.
As my cobra is now being set up with a track day bias I am looking for the same in my tires, hence the interest in the Street Comps. Wheel size isn't that important as I will buy new Halibrand style wheels to suit the tires (also time to get rid of the strip welded steel wheels I think).
What is a priority is handling and versatility - i.e must be good for street and track.

A lot of Cobra drivers think highly of the Avon CR6ZZ tires. You can purchase them from Roger Kraus Racing in California and Sascosports in Virginia.

Whoops, sorry about that Snake. Try going to: avonmotorsport.com. The site lists two dealers for Avon tires in South Africa. Automotive Technology Specialists in Johannesburg and Investchem also in Johannesburg. You may have checked them already but if not you might give them a try.

Mickey Thompson S/R
I got into the tail end of the autocross racing this year and ran 4 events using the Mickey Thompson S/Rs. Fronts were 26 x 10 R15 Lt , backs were 26 x 12 R15 Lt. Not happy with the cornering and will be going with 17 or 18" Hoosier's next year.

Finally got prices on the Avons and MT's and at roughly half the cost will go for the MT Street Comps on 17" wheels.
The Avons on 15"ers would have been my first choice but I just can't afford them so am ordering MT Street Comps (275/40R17 for rear and 245/45R17) for front with suitable pin drive Halibrand wheels - should get it all in mid Feb next year. Here's hoping they work well on both track and road!

MT Street Comp
I have 17" wheels as well and was thinking of replacing my GY with the MT Street Comp tire. How do you like them? Are they fairly sticky? Dry and wet performance good? I appreciate any comments you have.

I had the MT SR. I thought the sidewalls had too much flex on cornering. Straight line they were good.
What do you guys recommend for a 15" autocross/ street tire ?
