I understand Kevin. But with Cobras, you always make a choice. Eat a 300 pound deer or the windshield in a head on or rear end.
Ugly choices for sure but Cobras leave very little room for compromise. I always preferred the secure feeling laying on the brakes at 120 in the shut-off area to make the first turn off at Westhampton. It was the only turn-off...
And I street drove it that way always.

Hi Chas,

Good advice, for sure. With only 80 miles under my belt, I haven't done much spirited driving yet. I imagine tight shoulder harnesses will feel good once I do...

Thanks,

Kevin

Smile Deer

I live in town but there are a lot of deer in the area. I see them almost every day. Four pointer in the yard a few days ago and a six point passed behind me on the road into the neighborhood yesterday. The road from my house to the main hiway is a mile away. Nice curvy road with hills. Great Cobra road. Thru the years I have never had a deer pass in front of the Cobra but my other cars, sometimes I have to stop and let them pass in front of me. Small deer have bounced off the side of my Town Car.
I think they hear the Cobra and stop before they get to the road. Twelve years of watching for them in the Cobra, never a problem.
So keep the pipes screaming because it may scare the deer away.

Dwight

today it's 57 degree, I could go for a short ride but I have to finish the tile floor for the wife.

Dwight,

Interesting point about the deer and the rumble of a Cobra. As for the weather, it will be 52 here today and mid-60's Sunday, but there is salt residue and melting snow on the roads

Today is a great day for a drive in the Cobra, provided you are not behind another vehicle. My local roads do not have salt or cinders on them, so I'll be out for a drive today in ERA717.......Tomorrow morning most likely as well..........

Too much salt around up here in Ct. to get the cars out. Beautiful day, warm and sunny, but not worth replacing brake lines for. Enjoy your drive and think of us that are locked in for the winter. Headed over to ERA in a bit for the Xmas party and to see what's in the shop. Merry Christmas !!

Same here, Murry. Our township is on top of treating the roads, which is great when you have to get around in a storm. There is a chance of rain over the weekend and I'm still holding out hope that it will be heavy enough to wash the roads clean. Otherwise, the car will just stay in the garage.

Have fun at the ERA party.

Well, it was great weather for driving the Cobra this weekend. Didn't even need the heater today - nice sunny day. As a result, I now have 376 miles on the car. I have the carb linkage adjusted so I don't yet have full throttle - close though .

Friday, I had the alignment checked and everything was right on spec, so no adjustments necessary. Only had one issue so far and I was able to resolve it quickly. The car developed a very loud chirp from the rear end. Sounded like brakes but braking had no affect on the chirping. I was puzzled at first and then realized that the emergency brake has its own pads so I reached over and pulled the lever up a little and the chirping stopped. Put it down and it started again. So, I did a stop from about 50 with the emergency brake. Chirping is now gone. Didn't realize I needed to set the emergency brake pads, but it makes sense.

Winter weather is setting in tomorrow so that's probably the last drive for a while. The past two days will go a long way toward making winter a bit more tolerable. Maybe I'll even think about something other than the car...

Other than sorting out a couple of minor issues, I'm as done with the car as much as you're ever done with them. I have a soft top on order, but will wait until warmer weather to fit it. I also haven't messed with the side curtains yet. The tonneau cover is fitted and lined with felt on the inside perimeter where it touches the paint. So, here's the final look of the car. The ride height is set to ERA specs, I may lower it a bit but will leave it here for a while.

Well that's a beautiful job. Now, once things start breaking and falling off, you'll have plenty to do.

Nice job - the car (and your work) looks great! Hopefully I'm right behind you (engine install on the 25th).

Absolutely beautiful Kevin. A very nice job and I hope your son helped as much as you hoped he would. Neither of my cars will be at Carlisle this year so maybe Peter will let you show it off. Maybe this summer a CT, NY, PA get together or fun day run? Again, very pretty. Enjoy

Keven - looks really great. You should be really proud of the work you put into it. I like the license tag too. If you get a chance I would like to hear some video of it running too.

Things falling off?

Thanks guys, much appreciated. Dan, I'll try to get some video but it will be a while looking at the weather. I managed to sneak in 470 miles but winter is really setting in now.

Dan,

Finally got around to taking a video. My little digital camera doesn't capture the sound accurately, but there is one segment in the video at least without wind noise. Also, made this at 4:30 Friday afternoon, so too many vehicles on the road. Did a quick walk-around at the end.

oHey Kevin, That car is looking great! You did a fantastic job of assembly and getting it just the way you wanted it. Don't be afraid to keep the revs up and I've found that if you climb up all over their asses, most trucks (actually anybody) will get the heck out of the way and let you cruise. Hopefully good weather and some fun time burning dinosaurs and rubber. Enjoy!!!

Murray
