Smile GTS Viper or Boss LS?

Shelby had a connection to both the Boss in '69 and the Viper.

Which would you buy a new Boss LS or a '96 Viper GTS in showroom condition?

Appreciate the input.

Thanks. : )

New car versus an older car. The Viper has few options and the new Boss is probably loaded and much faster.

Based on aesthetics, and its Daytona Cobra-like looks, the Viper all the way.

To me, it's apples and oranges and I like oranges better.

Having said that, I'd rather own a later Viper, whether a later Gen2, Gen3 or Gen4.

96 Vipers are not bad , - but it is a 17 year old performance car, so some things might have to be done.

as opposed to a new Laguna Seca - if you can get a LS without the BS ( ADP $$ ) then that might be a hot ticket.

or how about a 2006 GT500 - >?

Well, when you put it that way, orange would be my first choice... atomic orange.

It's safe to say, nobody on this forum has any interest in a 17 year old performance car .

I have driven and been in many a Viper. I love them....

They are indeed minimalistic, down to the blood pressure cuff squeeze bulb to blow up the seats...hahaha

Only thing I have against them is that the V10 sounds like a mad UPS truck.

Evan,

If you want to stand out from the crowd, a GTS Viper is not a bad way to do it. If you are planning to drive the car on the track, the new BOSS 302 Laguna Seca is the only way to go.

For the track... no way I'd pick a 3600# car, on 9" tires. Not to mention, one with 55%F/45%R weight distribution.

Weight, distribution, grip, power, independent rear suspension... all go to the Viper

Oh, no interest in old performance cars....you mean like Cobras, Daytona Coupes, GT40s, Grand Sport Corvettes too?????

I think you maybe mispoke????.

I really, really like the Boss LS except I already have two Mustangs ('07 SGT heavily modded and will likely run with a stock Boss and the KR)

A close friend of mine has a relative who has the "96 Viper GTS that is part of an estate and has been in storage for a number of years. It only has 8000 miles on the clock and can be bought way under market.

Wife is OK with the Viper but would be really pissed if I added another Mustang. That wouldn't stop me (I just wear a helmet and keep the chin strap buckled for a week or so) but....the Viper is definitely different and striking (pardon the pun).

For what I could buy the Viper for I could put Belanger headers, Borla or Corsa exhaust, a Heffner tune, performance springs to lower it (love the hunkered down look) and put 19" Forged wheels with Michelins and still be under the price of a new Boss.

But.. I still love the Boss.

Bill, I'm not a track guy yet but maybe someday. As you know I do like standing out in crowd though!!

Thanks for the input guys.

No, I meant what I said... But, what I didn't say is that nobody on this forum has any interest in 50 year old performance cars... and in the context of this forum I interpreted PANAVIA's remark to mean that you could swap in an FE, toploader, and bias plys... I know what a stickler you are for originality though...

I personally love my 2013 Boss...it is probably one of the most neutrally balanced cars I have owned....power is great, I added the trackey, which is a nice mild Ford warranteed upgrade to the computer. Not much difference between the Boss and the LS except for the exclusivity. Slight ugrades to it, but not worth the $5K diff if you ask me.

I looked at Vipers, Z06s, M3s, Audis and its hard to beat the Boss for the price.
