Punctured BB
Got this surprise yesterday morning:
Do BB's tolerate repairs well, or do I need to get a new tire?
Thanks,
Hector

I wouldn't risk it. Your life is worth more than the price of a tire. Anytime the issue isn't in the tread area, the tire is junk.

how about here?
I will get another tire/wheel because I have always thought about it. Maybe I was hoping I could use the repaired one as the spare from now on?

That one should be able to be repaired as long as the rest of the tire is ok, no dry rot or any other blemishes. I'd have it patched from inside and then rebalanced. That's what our local Discount Tire does for free when you buy tires from them.

Thanks everyone. I think I will repair it and keep it. It only has 750 miles on it...basically brand new!!
What a pain... I have 4 Avons coming to me in April. Not early enough.
Anybody has a good brand new BB for sale? LOL

Some tire repair shops use a plug/patch. Actually a patch with a plug all in one piece. Sure sounds like a good idea rather that just a plug OR patch. That is one beautiful ride you have. Your motor installation looks fantastic. Who did the install?

thank you very much, Blas. I will try to get both the patch and plug done.
You're very kind on your comments about the car. Dennis Olthoff did the installation. Engine was built by Bill Parham. They were both great! I've written about my experience with them elsewhere on CC.
Cheers!

Over here in France you can buy the repair kit in any auto-factors for a few bucks. I keep one in the boot (trunk) I've used it a few times on my daily drivers, easy to use, you don't even need to take the wheel off the car.

Here's a video showing how it works

Hector if you plug the tire, you risk separating the tread. Just patch it from the inside.

It could be worse. Take a look at what I am dealing with on my Billboards. Only about 300 miles on them, but bought them in 2010.

Would a tire dressing like Armor All have prevented that?

Yes, indeed. I have four Avons coming my way that I will mount on FIA wheels. If they turn out better I may replace the tires on my Hali wheels as well.
Leave the BB's for shows...(if a ever take it to one

Always amazes me when I hear about the hype for these tire plugs. In all the years and using these plugs on all tubeless tires cars and motorcycles never once had an issue, now the world panics What a RipOff for consumer! The tire Co's are smiling all the way to the bank.Course now the tires have to be plugged from the inside another RipOff!

I totally agree, the tire companies are loving it.
When you get a nail or screw (small object) in your tire, a simple plug will do the trick providing the tire has plenty of tread and not worn out. Another good method is to install a boot / or patch on the inside of the tire, but a plug can be installed on the road and keep you going as long as you have enough air or an air supply.
The main reason tire companies don't and won't repair a steel belted tire is 1.) liability,
2.) it's possible someone might plug a tire where the steel mess is ripped or torn resulting in an unsafe repair.
Best is get home safely and keep an close eye on the tire and check air pressure & plug for leakage. To be completely safe and for high speed use..get a new one.

simple plug, from the outside, in situ, 2 minutes. Done. Drove it 25 miles, plug blended in nicely, may still buy a new BB if I can gather the pennies. Those 4 Avons were not cheap (thanks to MickMate at Acton Customs for the discount).
Still, the BB is the undisputed champion of Looks
