Which frame for a body- Help needed
Hello,
Is there a way to tell what kind of frame an aftermarket body is meant for? I recently met a guy who has just a body, hood, and truck lid, but does not know what kind of frame it was meant for. It is a fiberglass body for a 65 Coba. I was thinking possibly the wheel base could help solve this mystery. Any input or insight into how to figure this out would be most appreciated.
Thanks

Most of the "body only" floating around the secondary market are CMC's, company is now closed and out of business. Only other body only floating around out there is the old 70's company called "Acme" (yes, really), they also went by the name "Allied" for a brief time in 1991 before they to went belly up.
Pictures would help of course, so take some and post them here, we can then go from there.
Bill S.
PS: The 1970 style Bronco chassis can work, however, I am not sure what type of market there is for a 4X4 Cobra in todays market

Pictures
Here are the pictures I currently have. I will be getting more here soon. When I go to take a better look at it is there anything specific I should pay attention to or look out for?

So, it has no doors or inner tubs. It's not worth dealing with unless you need the body to repair a damaged car that's the same. Unless you have some outstanding fabrication and fiberglassing skillls.

Enlarged Pictures
My apologies for the small pictures. Uploading picutres on here has proven to be more difficult than I thought it would be. I believe the ones attached to here should come up larger when you click on them. I also am planning to go look at this in person and will get more pictures then. What should I look for and or take pictures of to try and figure out exactly what I am dealing with. Thank you for your help so far.
Oh and a 4x4 Cobra might be interesting, something a little different.

Not even from one singular manufacturer, the footboxes are from one, the body from another, and at least one of the trunklids from a third.
Body shell wise, my vote is the "no name" out of the mid west. Owner of the company used to do them in a two car garage behind his ranch house, sell them on Ebay for $1,500, doors $200 extra Footbox and trunks are anyone elses guess.
My sound advice, unless you have extreme fabrication skills (fiberglass and structural welding), walk away from it.

Thank you all for your insite. I could have ended up with quite a mess. Just out of interest, how much would that body as it sits be worth? It seems to me like you'd have to put a lot more time and money into it and possibly deal with poorly created materials. Thanks again for your help.

$200-$500 as it sits, if you can find a sucker on say craigslist.

Most replica bodies are made for a 90" wheelbase. It does look like a CMC body because it doesn't have the fuel filler recess in the right rear fender or the over length cut forward doors. They are usually put on a square tube frame built by the original manufacturer.
You'll find some good pictures and details of what I thought it was here.

Were you thinking of buying a frame to put it over or building one?

hi,
'stang does not have frame, you've to make your own chassis
'vette has got 98" wheelbase and ladder frame chassis, you've to strech your bodyshell or shorten wheelbase of chassis
take a look to my hybrid chassis
peace,
