The other side of the story in the registry has the crashed 3016 converted to a stock car with a mid-thirties Ford car body, which was sold to some unnamed friend who's relatives held onto the remains of the car. He knew where it was until about 1994 and the parts included the right shock tower at that time. The car we have been talking about with the 3016 shock tower was purchased by Park in 1986, so that would contradict the other story, unless someone traveled forward in time to some point after 1994 to get the shock tower and bring it back to some point prior to 1986 to weld it into the street car with the unknown serial number.

Just taking a guess, could it be that Bacon had a wrecked street car without a title, bought the title to 3106 (which was also a wreck at the time) and had someone make up a brand new shiny right front shock tower that was supposed to read 3106, but the person making up the new shock tower accidentally stamped it as 3016?

To me, if it was built in the 60's, it is, and always will be, an original, genuine Shelby cobra. Everything else is a replica, no matter where it was built or who built it.
I don't think this thread has anything to do with "replica" owners with questioning the legitimacy of 60's era Cobra. The question is actually quite interesting since at some point it does become somewhat farsical as to what constitutes an original Cobra when the only original pieice is a vin plate or some such other nominal part.

As to the second part of your statement the SAAC registry addresses that issue also but..you are certainly entitled to your own opinion.

<<<My question is when is a real genuine Shelby Cobra from the 60's , no longer and becomes something else?>>>

Answer #1 When no one will buy it.

Answer #2 When it sells for 100K and not 1 million.

Later, Karl
