Getting a VIN in Michigan

If you have been through the State of Michigan Assembled Vehicle obtaining a VIN and registration, I would appreciate any tales of your experience. My Superformance will be finished in 5 weeks, and I want to go through the process as seamlessly, as possible. Michigan summers are short...

I too am in Grand Rapids. Have a Streetbeast kit that is about 2 weeks away from paint and will hopefully be on the road by June. The weather this year has actually been a blessing to keep me from rushing the project.... not sure if that's a good thing or not. I'm looking for a Kent County office who is interested in hot rods that would be willing to do the TR-54. This way I'm guessing the officer will understand the make and model well.

I think that any police department can fill out the form. It simply requires their police registration number. The form is available at the Sec of State office. I picked it up, on Saturday. The challenge, as I see it, are that once your car passes the inspection it can, at times, take months to receive your VIN. They will sell you a temporary certificate. It appears to come as a 30 or 60 day temp. The 30-day costs $30, if I recall correctly.

Thanks for the direction. The only thing I'm debating is the window washers. TR-54 says I need them. Since I don't have a roof I double I'll ever use them, and would rather avoid installing the system.
