Kirkham now doesn't appear to offer Wilton Wool as an option anymore, at least on their website. Once upon a time, it was a $1,500 option from Kirkham, though back then it was negotiable.

They were trying to dump the wool. If you live in an area where you have trouble keeping your favorite cashmere from being nibbled on, then one day you will go out to your Cobra only to find the wool teeming with larvae and excrement.

There's Wilton wool carpet in my kit car. In September 2013, that carpet will be 19 years old.

The car is kept in my garage. The garage door remains open most days of the year, except during the coldest portion of winter and when there is a hard rain and wind. Today I finally swept out the last of the oak leaves that were stuck under and around some things.

During the period Nov.-April, there is a crappy $39.00 car cover on the Cobra.

I see some yucky black spiders in the garage occasionally.

We're so fortunate the moths haven't bothered the carpet, at all. Life's good!

Isn't it just like anything else to do with this hobby? If you want the Wilton, just do it and don't worry about what anybody else advises. And it's true, the only person who will know what sort of carpet it is is you. Probably, every time you sit in the car, it won't particularly worry you that you opted for the synthetic, but if it's a Wilton you've got, you can sit there smugly for a couple of secs before firing up

Most would want the Real stuff. If it will increase your sense of enjoyment you are already spending plenty of $..what % is the increase in cost to the total you are spending? Nominal.

Wilton to me adds a certain richness and feel. Some prefer shrimp cocktail..some prefer beer and pretzels.

Peter at ERA is still working on the cost estimate but I should know soon. One thing is that the rear panels of the seats are already finished in nylon carpet. Peter claims the nylon and wool look very similar, but do you think this would be an issue if I chose the wool carpet option?

I don't know. Have him FedEx you one square foot of each and then decide. Just have him tack the cost on to the bill....

The rear panels of the seats are already non-wool? I would just keep it that way. You cannot really appreciate the carpet in the footboxes. They are so low, dark, and deep , you can hardly see it and that is the bulk of the carpeting. The tunnel is the only place you would "feel" the carpet, and you would see it best on the tunnel and on the trunk panel behind the seats. IMHO, I really do not think it is worth the extra cost for those two areas. I would just do what you feel will make you happy and not make you have any regrets on a build you have put so much into. Me personally, if I was to do it over again, I would still choose the synthetic.

I would take Patrick's advice and get some carpet samples.

I respectfully disagree … the choices are a great customer service and one of the things that sets ERA apart. Wool or synthetic carpet, leather or vinyl seats, pin drive or bolt on wheels, ERA or Jag rear suspension … the list of choices goes on and on all the way from a bare body & frame to a full turn key car. Truly a custom Cobra built to exactly the customer's specification.

x2 on this. More examples: ERA also offers reverse speedo and reproduction fluid reservoir cans but shares with the customer that these options are sometimes problematic. Customer can get what they want with full disclosure. Great customer service.
