Google can be your best friend also, I worked at 2 Casinos in Vegas and both used Wilton Wool... It's funny nobody wants it but ERA charges a premium price for Wilton and the Kirkhams use it exclusively in there cars, but a Kirkham I guess isn't a high end Cobra... Plus when I went to college in NC it's the furniture capital of the USA, Furniture Market every year is held there in High Point, NC and Wilton carpet is the best of the best just check the prices on it at market it's unreal the price people pay for it. Put Berber in your cobra or Astro turf, it's your car...

I sort of want it, but it seems super pricey. I'm already paying $650 for standard carpet plus $200 for trunk carpet, and ERA estimates the wool is an additional $1000. That's a ton of dough for carpet. I thought the difference would be less

I think you will be happy with the synthetic, remember your engine is the jewel of your car from what I remember, anyways you wouldn't want people to soil themselves on the Wilton when those 600 plus horses kick in...

I spoke with a few different carpet suppliers. They mostly agreed that black Wilton is likely to fade in the sun, and velour may be a good upgrade from standard nylon. Fading shouldn't be a problem with the velour.
The cost for velour is $99/yard (60" wide), the cost of the Wilton III is $105/yard (42" wide), and nylon is typically about $50/yard (width varies). I ordered samples.
Do you think velour would look out of place on this type of car?

What you have to remember it's not the material so much, it's the way it is woven, meaning Wilton which is a weaving process makes it desirable, there is looped or piled which is a different weave, Velour would look very nice, especially in black, just make sure it is woven in the correct way, a lot of wool these days has UV protection in it, some shops will offer this with there wool, and you need to spray scotch guard on either carpet for extra protection, the samples will help a lot with your decision...

Man, if every aspect of your build gets the agonizing scrutiny that this carpet thing is getting it will take years to get that car on the road.

As a comparison, how much per yard is the good quality nylon from ERA?

Trust me. They will ALL fade in the sun eventually. The better question is how often will you drive and leave the car in the sun over the next decade or two?
Just my personal opinion, but it comes from someone who over-thinks every decision, I think you're over-thinking this decision.
Both Wilton wool and nylon will look great in your car and will last approximately the same amount of time. You'll probably sell the car long before fading ever becomes an issue. The question is. Do you want to spend $1,000 or whatever.

My vote is nylon.
Wool smells when wet & isn't twice as good/nice considering its over twice the price. Further, I'll bet most wont beable discern the difference.

Yes, they all will fade - eventually. I have a '62 Vette with nylon/black that I replaced 10 years ago, and it hasn't visibly faded yet. Two guys that sell these carpets each told me that, for my use (drive it to work 2-3x per month and park it in the NoCal sun, plus weekend driving), they wouldn't recommend black Wilton because they think it will begin to fade soon. They each recommended velour as a higher-quality alternative to nylon. I'd like to go with the Wilton but if it will be green in five years it's not worth it.
*Of course* I/we are over analyzing this decision. That is what I thought this forum is for, and why I don't even mention these things to my wife. Agonizing over these decisions is sort of fun for me, and I usually end up pretty happy with my choices and not regretting them. I'm going to get the samples and make my decision then. In the meantime, it looks like my car is going to leave ERA tomorrow or Wednesday and I should have it in a week +/-.

Going over each and every detail is half the fun, along with getting comments and suggestions from the peanut gallery. I went through the same thing when deciding how to set up my ERA, I started a thread or two to ask questions … just ask RodKnock !!
After a while it's less about the dollars and more about getting it as close to the way YOU like it. Chances are you will probably only do this once. My goal was to have as short a 'do over' list as possible, and with the kind of attention to detail that you are putting into your build, I bet your 'do over' list will be short by the time you are done.
Congrats on the upcoming shipment … keep us posted, it's going to be a great build … and don't forget the PICTURES

Yep, those were the good ole days when Tim couldn't decide on which roll bar setup (he went with both) and what shade of blue to paint his car.
