Wash away now that the acid is neutralized.
They also have a battery mat for under a battery that us supposed to neutralize battery acid. Can't say either way since my battery on the Cobra has had no problems, but I do have that mat installed in the Porsche as a safety precaution.
Have fun,

BUT-you need a left-handed muffler wrench to install that bearing!

Are both end of the battery case bowing out? Plates are sulphated. If you have any plates that are almost touching, they will create a resistance, especially when charging, therefore creating a localised heat, boiling the fluid.
i wotk for roadside service, and batteries fail for all sorts of reason. Some die instantly, some slowly. The one you have to watch out for, is the open circuit battery. It will destroy computers etc.

Thanks for the tips. No, sides seem normal. But it's going back today for warranty replacement.

A happy (for now ) ending. Returned batt to Pep Boys and no questions asked, a brief test and a new one in my hand.
Tech determined that the cell nearest the neg terminal was crapped. I live and learn.
New one was manufactured in Dec. and shipped in Mar.
12.5 out of the box. 14.8 at 1500 and 14.2 at 600-all at 63F. Took a little bit of distilled to get to the split rings.
Will watch it for a while as paranoia never goes away.
Thanks to all.

I'll assume that this isn't another one of those funny lines---------
Battery charge is checked cell by cell with a hydrometer----fully charged will be 1.25 sp gr(Ithink) A battery that won't take a proper charge will show up with a low spgr which if is just in one or two cells indicates a defective battery-------
are you going to the GSL Model show in Salt Lake City next week?

No Jerry-not joshing you.
I just looked up and learned you're referring to specific gravity. I don't think that's the test the store did. I think they started a load test and saw one cell out to lunch. In minutes the guy came out with a replacement, brand new, and I was happy. Still have a new 3 year warranty from Bosch.
I had been testing with my VOM and saw regular 12.5V. But two cells definitely had sulfate deposits.
Negative on the GSL-I'm in Long Island. Do wish I could meet you though. I'm the guy that sends you those cool links to your old FED. Where is Keeling these days?

Blinker fluid

Blas is right, get it tested. I do like the blinker fluid theory

Years ago, it was "muffler bearings" and nobody got that either. The sea monkey thing is priceless.

Don't think so Fred. I was not a 'club joiner' and never 'showed' the car.
I occasionally met some owners at Nick's in West Babylon and some of those guys raced at Lebanon but infrequently.
I autocrossed at Tobay, drag raced at West Hampton and ran it at track school at Bridgehampton before it closed. The car has recently run a track day at Lime Rock in a charity event.
Mainly I terrorized the back roads here...
