I feel your frustration and wish you luck in getting a reasonable resolution. I moved from NH (Live free or Die) to NY. The regulations and taxes in this state are insane. I moved to NY to help my parents.
I am going tomorrow to register my Cobra Tribute in NY. It was registered previously in NH. NH inspected it, issued a vin and registered it as a 1967. (Their call not mine). I'm hoping this will allow me to go through the NY process with out a problem. I do know that I have to pay sales tax on it.

Interesting, What does NY say they want to see on the car? Is there a list somewhere?
Thanks

Don't know how much (if any) help we can be, but a little background info on the car's history will make it easier for us to give you some direction.
What model year is it titled as in NY?
What make?
What is the current VIN number?
Was it registered/titled in NY new from MSO or was it transferred from another state?
Are you the original owner?
I feel your pain, as does anyone here who has a correctly registered replica in NY. You "may" want to answer these questions in a PM, as we sometimes have NY DMV friends and "not so much" friends visiting us here on CC.
It is a time consuming, and sometimes difficult, but it is possible to properly title a replica in NY. You have friends here who can help!

When DMV inspected my brothers FFR, the guy opened the door of his office, looked at his car from the doorway and said "looks good to me"!
Maybe you should move to Arizona!

My BDR came from NY and Ma. made me get a Ma VIN. It is now a 2007, the year the engine was made, crate engine, had it been a original engine with serial numbers it could have stayed a 65. And yes I neede to add a reverse light and washers. It was a long process but well worth it. Good Luck !!!!

I orginally titled and registered my car when I lived in FL. FL "inspection" was as follows: 1) Does it have a VIN? 2)Does the VIN match the MSO? If yes to both questions, pay your fees and you're done!
I had a VIN plate made up by a local trophy shop, so I knew the VIN matched the MSO.

Mine had a 17 digit VIN, and a title from NY, newer cars have a 17 digit VIN, 1965's don't. That was the first red flag in Ma. then they found out it was a replica.... Some states are easier then others.

honestly after 3 years?.....i have used my state representatives for issues in the past, you would be amazed at the kind of traction you can get at one of their offices with a mere phone call....try it.... it might just go away.
being registered to vote helps too......
call them with the attitude you need their help desperately because the state is being unfair and picking on you

I was going to suggest the state rep.s office as well. They actually took care of 99% of my title work (PennDOT was a PITA for whatever reason), and they did it with a smile on their face.
