Old Gas Station Pictures
Just a little automotive nostalgia for a Friday. Old gas stations and some of the detail is really amazing. Not my photos, no connection and not actually directly Cobra related...but if you are a gear head, you'll have a couple minutes of fun with these.

Nice, and great timing. This will help as I plan my new garage.

Awesome photos. I sighed seeing the gas prices in a couple of those photos, so for kicks ran it through an inflation calculator. $.259 in 1962 would be just under $2.00 today... (another big sigh)

Little America is one of my favorite stops when I get to Wyoming. The trucker showers are better than most five star hotels. Italian marble walls, all the amenities. A great place to stop and relax! Tom

This is a much better picture of that station, in my opinion:
The station was located across from Disneyland in Anaheim and the Austin-Healey belonged to the wife of one of the station's architects. I love the image of her wearing white gloves while driving the car. The photographer was Julius Shulman who had a gift for capturing mid-Century architecture. Here's more of the story from "The Chicane". http://thechicaneblog.com/2012/07/11...for-a-fill-up/

Sweet, I have a 100 M factory car and a BN7. Great cars. Hope they live as long as a Cobra......

Excellent stuff.
Why is it that they could afford to give you driveway service then and not now? What a joy it would be to go back in time.

The station in this before & after picture is about 300 ft from my home. I would love to buy it, restore it an use it for a shop and hang out joint. Anneliese might have something else to say about that idea...

Notice the one pic from the early 40's apparently of the 10% alcohol blended gasoline for "prosperity in the corn belt" Where have I heard that before?

Photo # 8 is Cucamonga Super service! Its near the corner of Archibald and Foothill (Old route 66) only about 1 block from my house. I have been looking at it for years, wanting to restore it. Then low and behold..
Group kicks off restoration of Route 66 Rancho Cucamonga gas station - DailyBulletin.com
It got donated to a non-profit and they are going to do it!!
I cant wait.
This is it today, waiting to come back to life!
