Actually, that gas cap was original on all "street" 427s. It was also original on Norton Commando motorcycles.

Look closely Ned, that's a 289 cap. I just wondered if some of the early 427s used left over 289 caps.

Your eyes may be better than mine ( actually, a good possibility) but it looks just like the cap on my old Cobra (CSX3121).

Round Button Cap
That style cap was continued over from the 289 cars up to around big block chassis number 3200, at which point the square release cap started being used. That said, something doesn't look quite right with the cap on 3112, it may be a repro. Mickmate can you comment?

Detail Pictures-Original Cobra
Thanks for the compliments SunDude. You are correct it is the same car. The owner liked it well enough he purchased the "real" thing.

That particular car was built by our own John McMahon. I missed buying it twice due to bad timing. Congrats, it is the best built Contemporary FIA out there.

Detail Pictures-Original Cobra
Yes that was Johns build-he did a great job. I have spoken and exchanged emails many times with him including a few recent pictures. He put a lot of love into that car and I believe sold it with about 10 miles on it?
Sounds like the timing was not good for you to purchase? It is a monster with 485hp and is my first Cobra.

Cap
Cap is correct for street 427. Absolutely detest the black wheels, looks "Mickey Mouse"

Thanks! That's what I thought but wasn't sure.

How come they didn't do the spare sunburst wheel in black too? And what's up with that green dot on the spare tire?

A correct Goodyear Blue Dot tire for that car. (The 'blue' dot was actually a greenish-blue... the repops are too-blue )

Yes, the wheels will be flat black, then left uncleaned to get that patina look, plus I hate cleaning wheels...
