Default Tremec 5 gear box ?

Hi guys, when I put into reserve it grinds. Only when the car hot not when it's cold. Tried putting 1 st first then reverse still grinds . No other problem other wise with tranny.

Mine is difficult also. Try this, use neutral, not first, let the clutch out, then clutch and reverse. I find it helps a bit.

Call Tremec and ask them for the fix.

Sounds like the clutch is dragging a bit. Adjust it for more disengagement (less free play) and try it. Dropping it into forward gears, the synchros are preventing the grinding.

+1: you need to take some more free play out of your clutch pedal........

I have a Tremec tko 600 and I know for certain my transmission does not have a synchronizer on the reverse gear. It requires putting into a forward gear first to stop the gears from turning.

I believe the tko 500 is the same design.

If the clutch starts to engage very quickly as the pedal come off the floor, when taking off normally, then I agree it is the clutch adjustment. If on the other hand, the clutch does not engage until the pedal is several inches up, it may be something else. Like the through out bearing or the pilot bearing. Let's hope not.

For a quick test, you can drop the trans in reverse and with the clutch still held to the floor pull the tranny out of reverse, wait a few seconds and then try and drop it back in. If it still grinds then there is something definitely dragging. First place I'd look is the adjustment. If you have a NON hydraulic clutch you should be able to feel a bad throw out bearing when lightly touching the pedal. A bad pilot bearing will usually have a bit of vibration to it under a neutral load.
