Windshield Glass?

Anyone, I'm looking for a reliable source for windshield glass. Mine is cracked, it is an older replica with the real deal glass, Royal Dalton from England. Any help would be appreciated, if it is cut to fit a real Cobra it will fit in my frame. Thanks

ok i'm curious....what royal dalton number is yours? do you have a kellison?
my car still has the dalton glass in it too....

the older glass is not the same profile as the new glass. the frame will have to be changed to use the newer glass.
if you end up changing the frame out, i'd buy the old one from you

Don't get glass, it will break again, it's heavy, get a Lexan windshield, they are light, don't break, racing certified, scratch resistant, cheaper, any real racing shop will point you on were to get one... I have had a few made from scratch by copying my glass windshield shape...$400

Took my old pitted glass out of the frame, made a pattern out of butcher paper and took it to my local Tap Plastics shop and had them cut a Lexan piece for me. $180.00. Got a new piece of weather stripping from Fast Freddy's Fast Freddie's Fabrications
for about $15 or $16. Tried one of their windshields but the upper corners were wrong so I went with my own pattern.

To answer your question, what I have is not exactly a Kellison. Back in 1977 I lived in Sacramento. I started my Cobra project by purchasing a body from Gordon Gimble who was a Merchant Marine and operated Cobra Performance in his off times. I picked the body up from Jim Kellison in Lincon, CA a small town north of Sacramento. I will try to be brief, but this is good history. It was Kellison who splashed the body and shortly after was building the cars sold by Steve Arntz. The Kellison /Arntz collaboration went on for a while and then they might have had some sort of falling out. That's where I came in. Two guys, Don Gilby and Tom Robinson, operating as G&R Engineering, who I met while they were working for Kellison, hooked up with Arntz and they started building the Arntz cars out of a shop in Sacramento they leased from me. That's how my car came about, as they were to complete my car in exchange for some free rent. Well they almost completed it before they were shut down by the IRS for non payment of payroll taxes. Afterwords, Kellison continued on his own building the Stallion which is what I believe you have. To make a long story short, Gilby finally did get my car finished while he was working for a fellow whose name escapes me. I lost track of them after that but somehow there has to be a connection to Ron Butler because the Butler cars are almost identical to my car with the exception of the roll bar which is distinctively Arntz, large with a forward brace attached to the floor on the passenger side.

Back to the glass, I'm not sure what you mean by the number on my glass. There is a small Royal Dalton label in the lower center of the windshield and if there is a number I will need stronger glasses to read it. The windshield was purchased around 1977 from G&R and I don't know where they got it. I'm sure from Kellison or the same supplier he was using. There can't have been many back then. Maybe Gimble as he was supplying original Cobra parts at that time. At this time I am still trying to locate glass that will fit.
You mentioned if I replaced the whole thing you would be interested in purchasing my frame but my question is what would you do for glass? Does the whole frame have to be removed from the car to replace the glass? Anything else you could do to help would be appreciated. I have just recently sold the car but I can't ship it to it's new owner until I get the windshield fixed. I am almost 100% sure that your windshield and mine are exactly the same. nice story......it's always interesting to hear about the inner and outer workings about jim kellison.
but back to the glass.....the daulton glass was original cobra, and i think AC ace also, maybe bristol but i can't verify that. the daulton number is 167.......i have searched for about 2 years for a piece of glass. you can trace the daulton assets thru two or three company mergers. ending up with viracon, but ultimately the profile is no longer produced. the new glass offered is slightly different, different enough that the original frame wont accept it.

so the short answer is you will have to replace the frame along with the glass, it will work and mount the same as yours now, and have the same lower body profile as your glass now. it extends about 6-8 inches into the cowl and has two bolts on each side. i have a PDF of it from kellisons manual so you can see the mechanics of it. just email me and i'll forward it to you

i have changed my frame and glass, well the previous owner did, i don't have the frame, thats why i would buy yours.........some day i will find the glass and be able to use the original frame. i just want to have the original frame for my car.....mine is a 1979, the kellison vin says 1978.you will have to contact shell valley and buy their assembly, the new frame won't have the bezel built into it at the body, some glass urethane works good to finish that off. send me some pics of your car would like to see it
