Default Stereo Recommendations

My Cobra Replica has very bouncey suspension and I fing that the CDs spend a lot of time skipping on our awful Michigan roads!

Does anyone have a recommendation for a Car Stereo (normal size DIN) that has a decent CD player anti-skip system? Boat stereos seem to have them as boats bounce a lot boat most boat radios are white and I would really prefer black or even better, something a bit throwback looking.

If you already have a DIN opening in the car, get a head unit that has iPod/iPhone integration so you can use an iPod or iPhone as the source. Alternatively, most new head units have aux in 1/8" female jacks, which also would work. I would recommend against playing the music out of the headphone jack of an iPod or iPhone because it adds a small/cheap amp in the chain and won't sound as clean as playing the music through the line-out (e.g., Apple 30 pin or Lightning connector).

If you don't have a DIN opening, then do iPod/iPhone line out > RCA > amp (with line level volume attenuation) > speakers. That is what I'm doing. The JL Audio HD amps have a feature where you can control the volume of the amp using an optional pot, so the install will be clean and doesn't require a head unit.

I have a DIN opening. Ipod integration is nice, bluetooth would be good too but I also want to be able to play CDs. I already have an Alpine Amp and Subwoofer in the trunk and 2 6x9s (Rockford Fosgate) behind the seats.

If you are looking to install a radio, you may have an overly-restrictive exhaust system. I can't imagine how loud I would need to crank it to hear anything between the wind noise and exhaust. Good luck!

I have an in-dash CD in my 62 Vette and it doesn't skip. The car has a solid rear with leafs and a kingpin front. It rides rougher than a cobra.

If you need a stereo in a Cobra, your side pipes aren't loud enough!!!

I knew someone would jump in with that! The side pipes are the stereo. Hell, I can't hear very well for a half hour or so after driving! But then, my wife says I can't hear her anytime.

Radio I have is plenty loud, even with the side pipes as I have a powerful amp and sub. Just need a good radio that plays CDs wthout skipping and bluetooth is nice too. The Alpine recommended earlier seems to be a good fit. Looked at some of the retro styled radios but none had CD or bluetooth.

Sometimes the car is parked too you know! ;-)

Why would you want to be shuffling CDs when you could load a thousand CDs onto an MP3 player and have them all instantly available?
If you're turning your music up so that it can be heard over a decent exhaust, then maybe you're one of those annoying people that thinks everyone else wants to listen to your music.

I have an Alpine stereo with I pod USB port with a 400 watts Alpine AMP, twin round 8" Pioneer speakers in the front, 6x9 Pioneer speakers in the rear and a mild subwoofer. That said I could not appreciate the sound until I installed a windscreen on my roll bar. Stay away from from using CDs you will feel the bumps.

Belly exhaust is better but with all the other noises how could you possibly enjoy a stereo in a Cobra.Every time I see a motorcycle with stereo screaming away always wonder how anyone could possibly enjoy riding like that.
No doubt we are all different but when I need to hear music I need to hear it clean and crisp only exceptions is with family and or friends around.

My Kirkham stereo is plenty loud! I really love the stainless steel speakers.

I opted for flat black speakers.
I relocated the in-dash volume knob.........its beside the brake pedal.
The radio plays the same old tune, over and over; the 427 FE wail!

I'm as guilty as anyone else, but maybe it's time to stop piling on the OP. It's a situation of you want a stereo or not. It's neither good nor bad... it's just what you want. I'm done with this one.

Ipod + Etymotic Research Er6i earbuds...

Much easier than a stereo AND protects your ears from wind noise.
