I actually did bid on this vehicle. Never interested to own one but for maybe one reason. I emailed the company and later spoke to a rep and answered all my questions. Took a look at it while in Malibu and it was sweet. I think I would have bid higher if the colors were reversed, never know what another bidder would have pushed it to. I am limited in the knowledge department on market value on these and asked someone that knows better than I. Maybe market value but with that engine and compared to the few I've seen maybe it was a bargain. My gut sort of sides with bargain. Not that money was a concern I made several purchases recently at that Auctions America in Cali that sold off many of the Petersons Museum vehicles. Haven't made a purchase in a long time.
Can I ask what a similarly equipped Kirkham new would go for compared to this one NEW?

To build a Kirkham like this with that engine would be about $1400,000- $150,000, that engine will bring a premium... Kirkham roller finished=$100,000-engine,etc=$50,000...pricing off Kirkham website, could be done cheaper if finished yourself to save on labor, etc...

fordracing is probably fairly close. In my VERY ROUND numbers:
NEW Kirkham Roller: $70,000
Paint: $15,000
Aluminum 482 Engine w/FI: $30,000 (Typical all aluminum carbed engine is about $20,000)
Tranny, Clutch, Bellhousing & Misc.: $5,000
Other Incidentals
(Coolant Recovery, Oil Vapor Tank, Other Options, etc.): $5,000
Typical Labor: $10,000
Sorting the EFI (if ever really sorted): $5,000
$140,000.
There are plenty of ways to cut some costs as well as spend even more money.

So maybe that $250,000 original build price may have been a bit high if it was a lower cost earlier model.

That is true and Bruce's brute for 3170 was built by Kinetic in Michigan.

The price of the Kroyer engine would be around 50,000.00 as fordracing65 said . Rodnock Kroyer does dyno on engine stand and they have chassis dyno also. As far as I know from my experience if you ever want to put back on chassis dyno they work with you. They use Motec for controller . They used to build Dodge their engines.

I was not serious with the re-body. The rivets and extreme adhesive would mean destroying the fiberglass. The ebay statement of the original sales price of $250K was also extreme. Finishline Motorsports has done many unique Cobra projects. A friend with CSX4000 had a frame stiffening mod done by them. Beefed up side impact protection and a cross bracing of the front up-rights.

If anyone wants to invest in classic autos rule #1 never buy a copy. All of the guys here gladly buy for enjoyment. I came across this if anyone cares to interpret for me.

But I have a deal with Real 1...if he can guess how many autos I own with the name Cobra in it that are NOT mentioned in the SAAC registry I won't comment any longer when he brings registry up. I will have to think about the answer but will do so if he responds. Not counting any Cobra, continuation or what we understand as a copy tribute or replica of one.

Doesn't the 2014 Shelby GT500 do to the GT what you state can do to the Cobra? Just advancements.

The Shelby GT 500 is an overweight under tired POS that does not corner or stop worth beans, I don't think a GT would have a problem with one on any road course.

You know what it may be faster, I would have to review what Leno said on his site. he was comparing the two. Technology advances. Something I have in my garage I'm sure would make the GT drive like a POS too, but I wouldn't use that term.

I am not sure Leno is an expert on handling at extreme conditions, the laws of physics have not been repealed to my knowledge. High CG, relatively small tires and heavy weight (3800 lbs) do not make a great car no matter how many technological driving aids you put in. Weight is the enemy and a GT is certainly too heavy but it has adequate tire size, low CG, good geometry and great aerodynamics compared to that over rated Mustang. Lots of cars can make the GT seem like a POS too, no argument there. I have extensively modified mine but it is still way too heavy which hurts the performance in every way.
Why don't you bring your (unnamed car) to the COCOA event at Willow Springs this coming October (they allow interesting cars that Cobra owners have). You can then demonstrate how fast your car is, they don't allow open wheelers though.

Back to the thread's original topic, I'm assuming that Shelby can't sell many, if any, aluminum rollers for $140,000, so why not raise the price and continue to sell few, if any. I kinda like this tried and true strategy. The price increase will make the bean counters over at Shelby very happy.

OK, minor exception is some evidence on the brushed finish ...but it's clean at least! Between the full 2 gallons of water and Water Wetter, there can't be much Prestone 50/50 left. Right?
