Which is the best cobra manufacturer?
I am looking to buy a Cobra roadster, and I would like to hear opinions on the top five manufacturers of the replicas.
I have a 2005 Superformance Cobra Daytona Coupe that I purchased with 700 miles. I love the looks, the sound, and of course the performance.
I just purchased a 2011 Shelby GT 350, but I have not seen the car yet.
Now I am turning my attention to the roadster, and I am looking for a quality product.
Thanks in advance for you advice

Kirkham or Shelby are the top two. From there, opinions will vary but mine would be ERA, Hurricane and SPF.

Probably a CSX Continuation, Kirkham, ERA, Superformance, and then a number of others that are great if built well.

Depends what you want. I'm assuming you want either a roller, or a car that's been built by someone else? Also, do you want a big or small block? Is correctness in appearance very important to you? What is your price range? If you can provide more guidance, you will get more specific answers.
That said, I can tell you that I chose an ERA because I wanted to build it myself and thought ERA made the nicest kit in terms of looks, quality, features, and customization. The other kits all were nice too, this is just my opinion. If I wanted a complete car or a roller, I would prioritize correctness (the way it sits) and a big block, and my top choices in order would be Kirkham, ERA, and then Shelby.

You have to judge the car on its individual merits. I have personally seen ERA, CSX and Kirkham cars that were not nearly as nice as a beautifully prepared FFR. Don't go by just the name alone.

What is your budget?
Do you want a fiberglass or aluminum body?
Where are you on the authenticity meter or how accurate do you want your Cobra to be to an original 1960's Shelby/AC Cobra?
Once those questions are answered we'll point you in the right direction.

There is only one Company that is still legally manufacturing Cobras. SAI. However, The only 2 companies continuing to produce authentic Cobras as according to the leading authoroty are Shelby and Kirkham ... this according to the SAAC World Registry. If you want a "Cobra" those are your choices outside of those made in the 60s.
Since you purchased a GT350 (awesome car btw) likely the SAI pedigree means something to you and it should if you love Cobras. Nothing but a Shelby can deliver that.
The rest are replicas of Cobras. Out of that group my vote goes to ERA.
Lets get our terms straight.
I expect the non Shelby owning peanut gallery to jump in with their usual self serving analysis of the term "replica" but the fact remains the official position has been stated and is in print in the leading authoritative text on the subject. All their analysis and foot stamping won't change things.

"Best" can be interpreted in many different ways. And the "self-serving" comment is also in it of itself "self-serving."

FWIW, I always serve myself first. That way I can be assured of getting more than the other guy.

The book in which you refer to also specifically states that the continuation models offered by SAI are " true replicas."
The OP asked for opinions "on the top five manufacturers of the replicas." And that would include the Shelby Cobra continuation models.
And yes, your comments are self-serving, but that's OK. We all are to some extent. The OP just needs a Club Cobra Orientation Day so he can get squared away before posting to the forum.

This forum is mostly self-serving opinionated hyperbole, which is one of the reasons I like it.

Hey,
Once you guys have sorted this out, maybe you can resolve the abortion debate or tackle the true meaning of life. I'm not in any way comparing this to those much bigger issues except to say that they all have about the same likelihood of any kind of consensus.
Regards,
Kevin

Ironically there seems to be more agreement than disagreement on the prior posts that the top three are Kirkham, Shelby, and ERA.

Always does. Then the follow up is whether aluminum and the Shelby name are important. Once that's answered it's pretty much over.
