Need help deciding which cobra

I have narrowed my search down to two cars. Keep in mind high on my list is resale value in about 5 years

Car 1 1966 Shell Valley 428FE big block wit Automatic 234 miles offered at $32K. Top and cover included

Car 2 1965 Lone Star with 5k miles 351W stroked to 427 and T5 transmission offered at $29k. No top or cover

Both cars are blue with white stripes.

This is a tough decision.

Unless you are physically handicapped you should not even look twice at a Cobra with an automatic in it.

Yes, but it's more complicated than you think. Clutch pedal, linkage, slave cylinder, master cylinder, new flywheel, pressure plate, TOB, fork... it starts to add up, especially if you have to do a little fabbing to make it all fit.

Either way at $30K plus or minus... How much could really lose over 5 years?

Ownership will cost you more than any loss you stand to realize on either purchase.

So with that in mind pic the one that you'd gravitate to first, if you were to see them parked next to each other.

Just saying, that would be my approach.

PS: If I had to guess the way you defended the Automatic - You like the Shell Valley better don't you?

Good point, I really like standard shift and I guess that would be my first choice. so Car would be the fun car to have.

Though this isn't the brand that you are looking at and it does have an automatic Transmission this Cobra is for sale for $20K and has been tested and driven by several people who know them well. It is well built and solid. If I had the money I would buy it, make a couple of changes and sell it. If at all interested in reading about it let me know and I will send you the link.

For the resale value alone I would think the standard transmission car would sell better than the automatic. My 2 cents.

Normally they do but several around here built theirs with Automatics. for one thing their wives like the Automatic and would drive the Cobras. And there are some places in San Francisco that a stick is almost impossible to not burn the clutch out soon. Remember the hill in the movie Bullet? That hill is a real pain to go up when you have to stop at each cross street and then try to start up. I used to set my parking brake, put the car in 1st gear, rev the engine up, and then release the parking brake while at the same time dumping the clutch. Burning rubber like that is normal down there but it is expensive in the long run. However I still prefer the 4 or 5 speeds.

You are really not giving us a lot to work with, what other options does each car have (wipers, heater, IRS, type of shocks used, details of the engine, knock off or bolt on wheels, type of gauges and their layout in the dash, etc). What condition is each car in, what condition is the paint in on each car, what condition is the interior of each car, how about the mileage of each car? ? ? Finally, what is your ultimate goal and/or use for the car (IE: street cruiser, daily driver, drag racer, road racer, etc).....

With a lot more information, we can really assist you. Finally, besides the color of the cars, what else drew you to them? Perhaps neither of those cars is really good for you and you are allowing your emotions to get the better of you right now.

Swapping out the T5 for a TKO 600 is a lot easier than swapping out an automatic for a stick.

I switched out an automatic to a tko 600 in capteddies cobra. bought most of the parts from vendor Mike Forte. I spent approx $4500 in parts alone if I remember correctly. transmission, flywheel, ram clutch system, driveshaft, new wilwood pedals, hyd clutch with new master cylenders, 3 billet reservoirs, shifter, etc. if you want a std trans, buy a cobra with one in it. much cheaper in the long run. swap takes alot of time also. pull interior, remove and mount new pedal assy, swap trans and poss make/buy new crossmember, patch hole in tunnel for auto shifter and cut new std shift hole, fab and mount all hyd clutch lines and reservoirs, etc. just my 2 cents worth of experience. good luck with your purchase and enjoy.

Wasn't implying anything sinister or underhanded, I was just thinking that for the multitudes of Cobras for sale at any given time, it seemed to me like an unusual pair to have as a short list.

Everyone always says that but I sold my automatic car in three days on Cobra Country. There are several fairly equivalent manual cars in the same price range listed that are still for sale a month and a half later.
