Default This would cause you to sell the Cobra

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0GGzWxYFggE

As part of last years Monterey Historics and the celebration of the Cobra I attended the Mecham Auction. (if you haven't been to one of these , you need to go) Immediately after the finish of the afternoon Cobra race we hurried over to the Del Monte Golf Coarse. As we walked into the tent this car was going up on the Auction Block. It sold for $5.5 Million.

Seeing it roll down the hiway is pretty sobering.

Leans on the throttle to 100+ without any drama. I'd have been a little nervous in traffic though???

I still love driving my Cobra. Don't need a multi-million dollar Porsche. Too many dopes on the road and I can't afford the insurance.

I bet at a car show your cobra parked next to that Porsche would still bring all the attention, they do every time...

Love it! I also love how people with this level of wealth choose to do things like drive an irreplaceable race car on the highway...!!!

Don't forget not everyone is into exotic race cars for that matter cars period. Then there are those of us that knowing these multimillion dollar cars are so far removed from us to ever own one that all they would be is a curiosity.

Can you imagine yourself on the Highway and seeing this Monster closing on you at 100+?
Gives new meaning to the phrase "Move over"!
Then again, if you never saw these cars race in the 70's you missed a real racing series Can Am was "IT!". This is a 12 cyl air cooled twin turbo, double overhead cam 1000 Hp, around 5.4 liter displacement. Once these were created, Mclaren was doomed.

Yes Rick, but the M8 McLarens are still some of the horniest looking and sounding race cars ever!!!

Funny you posted this. On a top speed thread I mentioned a 917 I drove. Of course there were different evolutions of this vehicle.

I have read about all kinds of monsters running in the old CanAm series.

What happened to make it disappear?
