What Cars are your Children Into?
This is basically for the members that have teenagers and adult children. What are the autos that your children like or are into other than anything made by Shelby.

I'm only 26. Does that count as an adult child?

Well isn't this timely...Yesterday we picked up a 74 Mustang II fastback for my 17 year old son (first car). He was grinning from ear to ear. He had a hard time trying to explain how he was feeling but I told him, I know exactly what you mean...Only 63K miles, in excellent condition. We stopped maybe 3 times on the way home and each time he got a different compliment from people. He found it a little funny that people were driving around in 20 - 30 thousand dollar cars and he was the one getting the compliments for a car he only paid a couple of grand for. I was starting to get jealous. Now he's bugging me to take him to car shows (its not even on the road yet). He said he was going to come home from school today and just sit in it. I remeber those days....
A quick search for parts and there's not a lot out there for this generation (74 - 78). Hope I did the right thing...

Quote from my 21 year old that I could never get into fast cars, skiing or motorcycles. Smart UCLA kid. Now he has a V6 Camry.
"Dad, my memories growing up as far as I can remember is you going out to drive, ride or ski fast. Then you would come home and Mom would have to take you to the hospital. Now, why would I want to do that?"
Smart A$$!

They aren't the most popular... Luckily for mechanical parts you can use pretty much anything from 79-95 as far as drivetrain goes.
Well, to many I'm still a kid I suppose. I have a 67 Mustang project car. I also work for Kirkham Motorsports if that tells you what kind of cars I'm into. Of course, I like the European exotics too. Before I worked for Kirkham i worked for a Porsche dealer and I've been trying to get work with the local Ferrari dealer for quite some time (not that I'd leave Kirkham for that! more of a on the weekends type thing being a photographer and all).

A news article was saying kids aren't in the hurry to own a car like my generation was. But we were all on bikes and were not toted around everywhere like recent generations are.
I suppose future generations will be touting how fast their electric motor is or will brag on having one electric motor per wheel.

My son (38 years old) has a Jeep CJ-7 that I gave him for his 16th birthday and a 2012 Ford F-150. Together we have completely rebuilt the Jeep - engine, paint, interior, lift kit, etc. He plans to keep it forever. He also keeps telling me that he plans to inherit my Cobra, but he knows he will have to share it with his sister.

Kidz Cars
When my son turned 17 and recived his license, we both decided instead of getting him a reliable Camry or Honda, we picked up a very nice 1968 Mustang Fastback GT Clone for a reasonable price. He drove the car for a few years, but, I wouldn't let him take the car to college in NY. After a while, we solding her to a friend. He is now a lawyer in Brooklyn, NY and drives a performance BMW 3Series. He drives my ERA whenever he gets a chance.
