I have a set of Classic Chambers for over a year now and about 15000 miles of driving, I love them and the difference could be felt by the bun o meter, big difference on the top end. Good quality product and easy people to deal with.

I got Stainless Steel Headers in Fargo, ND because of their website. I sent headers and sidepipes (one piece) to them and had a three bolt flange put in front of 3" inside diameter .
stainless packed mufflers.

I have posted photos in my gallery. (I hope)

I know Nick Acton can do it, too.

Eric at Classic Chambered has supplied me with many Cobra sidepipe mufflers. That bun-o-meter comment made me smile like the results of the exhaust do.

If you go with the 3" core, the small louvers will not rob much HP at all, same with the 2.5" versions. The 2.5" versions are significantly quieter. If you go OVER the louvers vs. into them, loudness will go up approx. 4 dBA's.

QUOTE: The thing that finally tilted me towards the SS muffs over the Cobra Packs is that the SS mufflers are a perforated core design so I didn't have to struggle with which way the louvers should go.

Keep in mind, different types of perforations will produce different sound as well, so will the type of packing used. I've also had numerous customers tell me that 304SS pipes will create a "ring" to the exhaust note. Annoying to some, but not to others. I can't build mine out of stainless - heavy 16 ga. aluminized only.

One thing I noticed when I was at Kirkham was that the mild steel exhaust was almost twice as heavy as the stainless, plus I think stainless is a superior metal. I have heard a slight ring with some stainless but not with the Kirkham stainless. Don't know if any hp difference from the 2 metals...

Default Sidepipes hp loss

I am in the process of building my side pipes, using 4.5" OD case, and 3" ID which is custom made stainless pert. I would like to think there is virtually no hp loss, although it will be noisy.
There will be a 2"OD insert for the road wrapped in sound deadening glass, this will really choke the hp and will hopefully get me past the 95db certification limit....

A lot of the parasitic loss from the exhaust is header design and poor manufacturing. In a lot of cases the header flanges don't match the ports well and the welding of the primary tubes to the header flange is substandard with weld protruding into the exhaust flow.

I'm not saying it affects all MFRs, with Kirkham's probably being one of the best made.

Undy you are correct. I use the flow Mod suggested by Eric at Classic Chambered Ex. This channels the outgoing exhaust with a nice transition from the collector to the CobraPack.
Also 4dBs is double the noise detected by the ear, so it's significant. The size of the louvers was half of the size I took out, It's not a hindrance.
I'm going to do a sound check today at my ear level. I will report back.
My tips are at 90*

Fortunate for me Arkansas, has no requirements for exhaust decibels. My old BDR had the two mufflers in the four inch case. Now, I have a 3" straight through with stainless packing. Huge difference.
