Default To Regstry or Not....that is the Question

OK I know I joked about a certain registry when a member kept on mentioning one when trying to state his Cobra was real. SO I throw forth this "To Registry or Not that is the Question"

I thought surely I was a minority of one until recently. Another member who owns a real(1960's) Cobra sent me a message. It doesn't matter what the information that was exchanged but he did mention he kept his name off all boards and the internet. Which I fully understand and can appreciate, especially since he was in the minority on this board as far as ownership.

I don't know the current protocols of various registries and owners clubs but I can tel you this. In the 1950's and later my grandfather was hounded by certain collectors because his name was in several owners club directories. He would tell me all the stories including the brothers who had that great collection in France.

I object to having even my city and state listed and name listed as private in any such directory. Just recently a fifty million plus Ferrari GTO was sold and a former owner lives in my town. Just from that info I spent hours speaking to several people trying to get confirmation because they know me and "thought" I must know something. I took the information and passed it along is all I would do.

We have had cars before some owners clubs and directories even existed. I do not need the intrusion from those seeking out the info. I could go into countless examples of those over-stepping a boundary.

That's just my take on it, I don't need someone telling me what I own. Some others might I do not. Most negative experiences have been with Ferrari so-called experts trying to tell me a certain model does not exist or wasn't produced that way at the factory. When I told him Chinetti handled the order that was all I had to say.

Pictures are another thing and there are numerous reasons why there are no pictures allowed when the car is on my property. Collier does the same thing at his museum and now states from a private collection when loaning vehicles. There is a certain sharing amonst certain collectors and the reasons vary.

That's all I had to say I was not bad mouthing any registry, not even SAAC where some of the current info may be inaccurate. just joking.

PEACE

We've had cars before registries? Do you think there were registries before cars were made?

Maybe it's me, but much of the time, your posts lack any clear, concise thesis. Beginnings, endings, paragraphs lose me. There's no "ordering."

Like this post. Is it about privacy? Is it about the fact that registries keep track of rare automobiles, which reduces fraud and misrepresentation? Are you attempting to start trouble with SAAC board? As Jim Harbaugh and Pete Carroll once verbally exchanged after a Stanford-USC football game, "What is your deal?"

Definately about privacy. I only mention SAAC because of a private message. I'm all about preventing fraud and misrepresentation that's mostly why I share info with several other collectors.

We have owned many autos before many registries or owners clubs, cetainly not all. Sorry I tend to ramble but not enough time to compose for a Yale composition class. And I mention a private message in relation to privacy.

So you posted a thread about privacy on a public Internet forum? And then you discuss that you had a private conversation which you had with unnamed original Cobra owner and that you also spent hours on the phone discussing a $50MM+ Ferrari with people seeking confirmation? Confirmation of what? I really don't care, but again, you're subject matter or purpose for your thread gets lost in the minutia.

I suppose, if you desire privacy, then you probably shouldn't be purchasing $50MM Ferarri's or original Cobra's, because your name will be attached to the car in perpetuity.

I also suppose, if you desire privacy, then you shouldn't own a phone or computer and better be looking for some real estate "off the grid." But then, when you buy property, you're name will be listed on the title in perpetuity.
